Council of Elders Meeting Report
Tuesday March 20, 2001
Cincinnati, Ohio
The Council of Elders concluded their meetings today by reviewing the Strategic Plan and Operation Plan. Several miscellaneous items rounded out the dayâs business in open session, and the meetings concluded with executive session.
The General Conference of Elders is scheduled for May 6-7, 2001, in Cincinnati. The Council needed to conclude two major items of business in this session to prepare for the GCE. Aaron Dean led final discussion for edits to the Strategic Plan to be balloted on by the elders in May. Following a few edits and word changes, the Council quorum present (Victor Kubik absent) unanimously approved the Strategic Plan as amended.
Chairman Roy Holladay next directed attention to the Operation Plan. Consulting with the operation managers (all present), the Council and managers together made a few alterations in wording, and added some clarifying clauses. The Council quorum (Victor Kubik absent) unanimously approved the Operation Plan as amended. Secretary Gerald Seelig will distribute both of these documents with call and notice for the annual meting.
Mr. Holladay distributed a proposed schedule for the entire weekend of May 5-7 at the GCE. Brief discussion followed, with Council members agreeing to the suggested itinerary with a few adjustments. Mr. Seelig will send the schedule to all elders with call and notice.
Council dealt with the following matters today:
á Elders Dael Baughman and Allan Hambleton were unanimously confirmed to repeat terms on the Amendment Committee.
á A recent ãnew hireä to UCG employment requested authorization to roll over a 403(b) retirement account from a previous employer into Unitedâs Thrift Plan. This required Council approval (unanimous by quorum present ö Victor Kubik absent).
á Discussion of current Council policy on compensation for Council members not salaried by the United Church of God. This item was referred to the president and the members involved.
á A request for ABC involvement in Thailand was delayed until fiscal year 2002-2003 due to budget considerations. Council members will investigate the possibility of participation in the meantime.
á A suggestion regarding proposed changes in the amendment process suggested by Committee Chairman Roc Corbett was tabled, since it can not be dealt with prior to this yearâs General Conference.
Following a brief executive session, the Council of Elders adjourned its current round of meetings. The next regularly scheduled meetings will be May 8-10, 2001, following the General Conference of Elders in Cincinnati.
