At the 80th anniversary of end of World War II in Europe, we reflect on sweeping changes over the past many decades and what recent developments could be leading to. European leaders have expressed outrage over U.S. President Donald Trump’s approach toward NATO allies in Europe, especially in dealing with the war between Russia and Ukraine and in introducing tariffs on trade. Europeans increasingly speak of needing to establish their own integrated defense force. While we are not there yet, Bible prophecy reveals that the world will ultimately experience a ferocious tyrannical power centered in Europe, and we need to be on the lookout. In the meantime, we mourn over the evils of this age as we anticipate the return of Jesus Christ and the Kingdom He will establish—when He will draw all peoples will be drawn into covenant with Him . But that covenant and the peace and joy that come with it are available now to those who submit to God’s calling in repentance and faith—receiving His grace and spiritual empowerment.
As Europe marks 80 years since World War II’s end, rising tensions, calls for a unified defense, and shifting alliances echo prophetic warnings of a future tyrannical power, reminding us to stay spiritually vigilant as we await Christ’s return and the peace offered through His covenant—available now to those who respond in faith and repentance.
