Compass Point

Luke 24:32 "And they said to one another, 'Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the scriptures to us?'"

These disciples hung on every word that Christ said during this brief encounter on the road to Emmaus. It is a fascinating story of how Christ works in our lives by the power of the Holy Spirit.

How strong is our passion for God's word? Do we have a driving desire to read and talk about the Bible, just as these disciples did? That is what drew Christ to them as they walked on the road.

Our desire coupled with the Holy Spirit is what knits us closer to Christ each day. Determine to read more of the Bible each day and discuss it with someone else.

Hamas has rearmed and is rattling its sabers. Syria is itching to exploit a perceived weakness. And American Secretary of State Condi Rice is in the area this week negotiating. We wish her good success.

Why in a land of such abundance would so many kids be without basic services? A look at some of the social problems facing poor families gives part of the answer. A recent report of two children being introduced to pot from their mothers live-in boy friends shows the breakdown in many poor inner city families.
