2025 Feast of Tabernacles: Penang, Malaysia

3 minutes read time

The Shangri-La Resort, situated on the water’s edge at Batu Ferringhi Beach, was an ideal location for brethren from around the world to gather together on-site and keep the Feast of Tabernacles.

Set amid tranquil greenery and with magnificent views over Ferringhi Bay, the Shangri-La Golden Sands Resort served as a perfect gathering place for brethren from across the globe to celebrate the Feast together. The two resorts provided expansive lawns, palm and shade trees, beach access, lagoon-style swimming pools, and a choice of five on-site restaurants offering a variety of delicious cuisines. Each morning, participants from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada and Australia enjoyed extensive buffet breakfasts together, fostering even deeper fellowship.

The welcome barbecue dinner held outdoors following the first Holy Day provided an excellent occasion for attendees to interact and connect. Similarly, the buffet lunch on the Eighth Day enabled participants to share a final meal together and bid farewell in a congenial setting.

A variety of activities were held, such as a pizza lunch, a family fun afternoon on the resort grounds, and special studies for youths, teens and young adults, along with a hymn sing to welcome the Sabbath. An opportunity for creativity, one of this year’s activities allowed 45 participants of all ages to work with guidance from batik painting experts in practicing this traditional art form that dates back centuries. After painting, the fabrics were dried and hemmed, creating beautiful keepsakes to take home. A perennial highlight is a trip to the nearby Entopia butterfly farm, home to over 15,000 butterflies.

The youth activity at Adventure Zone, located within the resort grounds, provided an opportunity for both parents and children to participate in engaging recreational activities, including competitive races on drop slides and utilization of play areas. In addition, 30 young adults were transported to George Town, where they toured local street art, experienced the sunset at Chew Jetty, and concluded their outing with a group dinner.

With street food stalls, numerous restaurants, and bustling night markets all close to the Feast venue, there were plenty of chances for brethren to enjoy shared meals and engaging conversations.

Throughout the Feast, thought-provoking messages were presented that collectively illustrated concepts relating to the Millennium and the Kingdom of God. The central theme emphasized our future role in guiding and mentoring others as they develop their relationship with God and highlighted the value of setting a positive example. In addition, attendees had the opportunity to enjoy inspiring musical performances each day of the Feast.

Many members from Southeast Asia, some of whom experience isolation throughout the year and are unable to travel internationally, value the chance to observe the Feast alongside others who share their beliefs. Their faith and trust serve as an inspiration to those who engage with them.
