2026 Camp Report: Northwest

Our theme this year, “Follow Me,” was well received, and many analogies and lessons from the Christian living classes led to important discussions about what God is doing in each of our lives as we grow as disciples.

Given the record-high temperatures around the country this summer, we very much appreciated the cooler weather, with temperatures in the low 60s and scattered sunbreaks in the afternoon once the marine layer burned off. We also enjoyed an evening train ride on the Oregon Coast Scenic Railway from Rockaway Beach northward as the sun began to set along the incredible vistas of the Oregon coast.

The activities this year were enjoyed by all, and our staff worked very hard to make them memorable. Our standard activities included boogie boarding and skimboarding on the beach, softball, ultimate frisbee, pickleball, dance, archery, volleyball, arts and crafts, Excellence in Living, team building and speedaway. Unfortunately, Lake Lytle wasn’t able to support waterskiing this year, but we added a hike at the beautiful Kilchis Point Reserve, giving campers another opportunity to enjoy the Oregon coast.

We were blessed this year to be joined by David Middleton and his wife, Shana, from New Zealand. Their presence, along with staff and campers from Australia, the Netherlands, Canada and the United Kingdom, added a real international flair to our camp this year. We also transitioned Northwest Camp leadership from Ben Light, who has directed the camp for the past few years, to Rob Slocum, who will direct the camp going forward.

After a few short days, it was time to leave the Zone and return to the world. Our time together was a much-needed respite. We’re all looking forward to the day when the Kingdom of God is here permanently—the fulfillment of the hope and calling of God and the journey we learned more about at camp.
