2026 Camp Report: Ochoco

2 minutes read time

Greetings from Preteen Camp Ochoco, where 68 campers enjoyed the dry hills and ponderosa pine forests of central Oregon.

We know that God watches over our youth camps, and we definitely saw signs of His protection. There was a small forest fire in the area, and the campers got to watch helicopters fly overhead with buckets of water before the fire was quickly contained! We’re thankful to our Creator for His love and protection.

The high temperature on the first full day of camp was 92 degrees, making it easy to appreciate activities like swimming and aquatic kickball. Other activities included archery, pickleball, wilderness explorers, arts and crafts and dance. The oldest dorms got to try an exciting new activity: a climbing wall. These activities helped campers grow in a safe environment while embracing elements of “the Zone,” such as having fun, being challenged and building positive relationships.

The most foundational activity was Christian living class, which focused on this year’s theme, “Follow Me.” The first morning of camp started with an all-camp class titled “Hear My Voice,” emphasizing the importance of listening to God and following His direction despite the noise of the world. Lessons on “Come to Me,” “Obey Me” and “Love Me” came next. We know that God is calling our youth, and we want them to know that too. It is our hope that these classes help instill a lasting connection with God and His people while the campers are still young.

In the evenings, campers wound down around the campfire. The whole camp joined in for skits, snacks and songs.

Our 15 teen assistants were an integral part of the camp. By helping counselors with dorms, running activities alongside staff and assisting with kitchen cleanup, our teens learned valuable lessons in service and leadership. This was part of our effort to create a family environment where we all serve one another while helping bring up new generations in God’s Church.

Thank you for your continued prayers for all of our United Youth Camps and for the success of our young people.
