The Importance of Messianic Prophecies

Long before Christ walked the earth, many prophecy's were written about his coming. These prophecy's were written hundreds of years earlier by different prophets, who lived at different times. Yet, Christ fulfilled them all. That would be impossible for any man to accomplish, but God ensured their fulfillment in Christ.

(00:01) so I want to talk to you about something today that's truly fascinating and profound the Messianic prophecies now some might be wondering what are the Messianic prophecies well let me explain these prophecies are for tellings about the Messiah particularly concerning Jesus Christ and I want to thank uh Dan Sanders going along that same path that I'll be going on today also so to give you some context I want to begin with a quote from the Jewish historian Josephus he lived from 37 ad to 100 AD and in his work Antiquities of the Jews that was
(00:46) written around 93 94 ad Josephus refers to Jesus in a remarkable way quote now there was about this time one Jesus A wise man if it be lawful to call him a man for he was a doer of wonderful Works a teacher of such men as receive the truth with pleasure he drew over to him both many of the Jews and many of the Gentiles also he was the Christ and when pilate at the suggestion of the principal men Among Us had condemned him to the Cross those that loved him at the first did not forsake Him for he appeared to them alive again
(01:30) the thir third day as the Divine prophets had foretold these and 10,000 other wonderful things concerning him and still the tribe of Christians so named from him are not extinct at this day and we're still not extinct and so I want to talk about those 10,000 other things well at least some of them some of them and about what the prophets foretold the Messianic prophecies what are they why are they Passover is coming soon and there are many prophecies concerning his death and Resurrection now our expectations are in
(02:17) the second coming but you know to understand the first coming it's very helpful with very few people keep the Passover or the holy days but God through his Holy Spirit opened up their understanding to us to to see and and to glorify him by keeping them and preparing ourselves for the Fulfillment of them so let's just see how accurately the prophecies concerning Jesus Christ's first coming were fulfilled so that we can know and know that we know what is said about him concerning future prophecies and coming in power are true statements
(03:01) something that will give us comfort and give us encouragement so that we can have faith in God's plan for ourselves and Mankind now the word Messiah is translation for the Hebrew word meaning anointed one and Christ is the Greek equivalent for the word Messiah let's look at John John 129 John 129 and verse 35 and 36 this is this is concerning John the Baptist verse 29 of John 1 says the next day when John saw Jesus coming toward him and said look the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world in verse 35 again the next day John stood with
(03:53) two of his disciples and looking at Jesus as he walked he said Behold the Lamb of God and they said to him Rabbi which is to say when translated teacher where are you staying in verse 40 one of the two who heard John speak and followed him was Andrew Simon Peter's brother and he first found his own brother Simon and said to him we have found the Messiah which is translated the Christ it's a title you can say Jesus or Christ or the Messiah Jesus Messiah now many of the prophecies concerning the Messiah were very extremely detailed and if they hadn't
(04:39) been fulfilled by Jesus when and how they were well you could really question the veracity of your Bible let's look at a few of these just to make it clear what we're talking about let's look at the place of birth of the Messiah go to Matthew 2 Matthew 2 I'm going to start in verse 2 2- six Matthew 2 this is the wise men the wise men were saying where is he who has been born King of the Jews for we have seen a star in the east and have come to worship Him and when Herod the king heard this you know what the wise men had said he
(05:23) was troubled and all Jerusalem with him and when he had gathered all the Chief priests and the scribes of the people together he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born so verse 5 so they said to him in Bethlehem of Judea for thus it is written by the prophet verse 6 but you Bethlehem and the land of Judah are not the least among the rulers of Judah for out of you shall come a ruler who will Shepherd My People Israel now that verse six that prophecy they're referring to Micah 5 verse2 Micah 52 Micah 52
(06:09) says but you Bethlehem ephra ephra was an older name for Bethlehem and it was the area around Bethlehem though you are little among the thousands of Judah yet out of you shall come forth to me one the one to be ruler in Israel whose going forth are from old from ever lasting so the the priests and the scribes were telling Herod with great assurances that the Christ would be born in Bethlehem so now let's go back to verse one of Matthew 2 I kind of skip that but that's the Fulfillment now ver verse one of Matthew
(06:52) 2 now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king behold wise men from the East came to Jerusalem you know it's just a matter of fact statement now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem so right off the bat right off the bat God quickly El eliminates all the cities of the world except one you know if Jesus had been born anywhere else you know how could you believe anything really what if verse one said that he was born in Ty or he had been born in Jerusalem or wherever somewhere in Egypt but he wasn't and did
(07:34) Christ make that happen no he didn't God did so another one how about his betrayal let's look at that there's a lot of prophecies about his betrayal John 13 look at John 13 Verse 18 and 19 and a few others this is at the last passover John 13:18 I do not speak concerning all of you I know whom I have chosen but that the scripture may be fulfilled he who eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me now that's referring to Psalm 419 Psalm 419 which says even my own familiar friend and whom I trusted who ate my bread has
(08:26) lifted up his heel against me so let's go back to verse 19 of uh John 13 John 13: 19 now I tell you before it comes that when it does come to pass you may believe that I am he in verse 21 when Jesus had said these things he was troubled in the spirit and testified and said most assuredly I say to you say to you one of you will betray me if you down to verse 25 and then uh leaning back on jesus' breast is they think it was that was probably John but he said he said to him said to Jesus Lord who is it in verse 26 Jesus answered it is he
(09:17) to whom I shall give a piece of bread when I have dipped it and having dipped the bread he gave it to Judi es scariot the son of Simon and now after the piece of bread Satan entered him and then Jesus Jesus said to him what you do do quickly so we have a friend now who shares meals with him and betrays him and you'll further about his betrayal let's look at Zechariah 11 this is a prophecy uh this is a chapter on the rejection of the Messiah Zechariah 11 verse 12 and3 Zechariah 11:12 then I said to him if it is if it is
(10:03) agreeable to you give me my wages and if not refrain so they waigh out for my wages 30 pieces of silver verse 13 and the Lord said to me throw it to the Potter that princely price they set on me so I took the 30 pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the Lord for the Potter now if you look in the the Beyond Today commentary on those verses they say that 30 pieces of silver was the price of a gourd slave and you can see that in Exodus 21 a free man was considered twice that amount so it was an insult a a princely
(10:47) price was actually sarcasm you know to throw away something that was basically worthless it was an estimation of what they thought of of the Messiah and his work so now we look at Matthew 26: 14- 15 about the Fulfillment of that Matthew 26 Matthew 26:14 says then one of the 12 called Judas scariot went to the chief priests and said what are you willing to give me if I deliver him to you and they counted out to him 30 pieces of silver Matthew 27 verse 4 and 5 Matthew 27 this is Judas saying I have sinned by betraying innocent blood and they said
(11:41) what is that to us you see to it what is that then verse five then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed and went and hanged himself and down to verse 7 and they consulted together and bought with them The Potter's field to bury strangers in so here now again we we kind of put that all together and we see that Jesus was betrayed by a friend for exactly 30 pieces of silver the money was thrown into the house uh of the Lord and used to buy a Potter's field look at all that that's very exact
(12:31) what if any of those had been different what if uh he had been betrayed by a stranger or what if uh they had paid you know 29 pieces of gold or you know anything they instead of buying a Potter's field they they put up a marble statue somewhere I mean any of those things if it had been different uh but this not everything was exact so let's look at the events of his death I'm going to read three scriptures in the Old Testament we'll just put those three out there to start with Psalm 22 verse 16 and 18 Psalm 22 verse 16 for dogs have surrounded me
(13:21) the congregation of the wicked has inclosed me they pierced my hands and my feet Verse 18 18 they divide my garments among them and for my clothing they cast lots these are the prophecies let's look at Psalm 34 verse 20 Psalm 34:20 he guards all his bones not one of them is broken now just as aside you look back in Exodus and no bones were to be broken in the in the Passover Lambs then Isaiah 53 this is talking about being crucified with thieves Isaiah 53:2 therefore I will divide him a portion with the great and he shall
(14:21) divide the spoil with the strong because he poured out his soul under death and he was numbered with the transgressors and he bore the sin of many and made intercession for the transgressors so now we can see the Fulfillment described in John 19 John 19:1 16-18 so those three prophecies that we read in in Psalms and Isaiah John 19:16 then he delivered him to be crucified and then they took Jesus and led him away where they crucified him and two others with him one on either side and Jesus in the center so we see him crucified between
(15:10) two thieves or transgressors now considering what we read there in Psalm 22:16 about being pierced the hands and the feet that's referring to crucifixion and it's interesting about the crucifixion as described by the piercing of the hands and feet that this was a Roman method of punishment for Crime the Hebrews under their system uh before becoming a Roman territory inflicted the death penalty by stoning and they only accepted crucifixion by Roman compulsion therefore the manner of death described in uh Psalms and Isaiah wasn't
(15:54) even practiced until hundreds of years after that prophecy was written So reading a little further in John 19 verse 23 this is about the garments verse 23 then the soldiers when they had crucified Jesus took his garments and made four parts to each Soldier a part and also the tunic now the tunic was W without seen woven from the top in one piece so they said among themselves let us not tear car it but cast lots for it whose it shall be that the scripture might be fulfilled which says they divided my garments among them
(16:39) and my clothing they cast lots that's referring back to Psalm 22 therefore the soldiers did these things and in John 19:33 when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead they did not break his legs for these things were done that the scripture should be fulfilled not one of his bones shall be broken that's what we saw in Psalm 34 now the soldiers didn't know this they weren't up to all the prophecies and dividing the garments and not breaking his legs and so forth they just did what they did they didn't know
(17:21) anything those are just samples there are so many more prophecies that were fulfilled now some of the m Messianic prophecies were not understood to be referring to the Messiah until after their fulfillment as we see in Matthew 2 verse1 14- 15 Matthew 24-5 when he arose this is verse 14 of Matthew 2 when he arose he took the young child and his mother by night and departed for Egypt this is referring to Joseph because an angel had appeared to him in a dream and told him to flee to Egypt with Jesus and was there until the death of
(18:13) Herod that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet saying out of Egypt I call my son and that refers to Hosea 11:1 Hosea 11:1 which says when Israel was a child I loved him and out of Egypt I call my son see it has a dual meaning there's a principle of Duality that comes in Pro comes out in Prophecy and in understanding the Bible and it's a very important principle we are given the physical as a type of the spiritual we look at Adam and we we understand something about Christ and
(18:55) about the work of Christ you see that in 1 Corinthians 15:45 1 Corinthians 15:45 and 46 and so it is written the first man Adam became a living being that's in Genesis 2:7 though the last Adam became a lifegiving spirit Romans 5:14 however the spiritual is not first but the natural and afterward the spiritual now there's there's a first Covenant and there's a second Covenant the first Covenant was material and National and it didn't include salvation it was based on Birthright promises but there is a New Covenant and
(19:51) it is spiritual it's Eternal and it's based on the scepter promises so we have the physical and the spiritual The Duality of one to the other we have physical circumcision and then there's spiritual circumcision we have you we're born of the flesh we're born of the spirit Israel nationally was a son and was called out of Egypt but Christ was that greater son now almost all Jews uh in jesus' day they expected a messiah they were under Roman rule at that time and you know they were looking for Relief they wanted a messiah in
(20:35) power they were looking for a supernatural being who would establish righteousness and Justice some were looking for a military leader who would drive out the Romans and and others for economic betterment for them and you know to live without working you know as in Paradise some things haven't changed that much have they there were several Pretender Messiah before Jesus came and some even thought that John the Baptist might be the one we see that in Luke 3:15 and 16 Luke 3:15 and 16 which talks about being baptized with
(21:18) the Holy Spirit in fire verse 15 now as the people were in expectation and all reasoned in their hearts about John whether he was the Christ or not John answered saying to all I indeed baptize you with water but one miter than I is coming whose Sandal strap I'm not worthy to loose he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire John pointed them toward Jesus who actually claimed to be the Messiah we have a point here where Jesus was talking to a Samaritan woman at a well and he was telling her all about things in her
(22:00) life that's in John 4:19 John 4:19 and 25-26 John 4:19 the woman said to him sir I perceive that you are a prophet down to verse 25 the woman said to him I I know that Messiah is coming see even the Samaritan woman was familiar with the prophecies I know that Messiah is coming who is called Christ when he comes he will tell us all things and Jesus said to her I who speak to you am he he he knew he was and he admitted that he was and he said that he was yet Jesus did not really fit what many expected he he didn't really come
(22:53) on as strong as they wanted but you know so much proved that he was the m Messiah you know why why didn't more believe you think back about that and but you know many Jews let a few dogmatic misinterpretations of certain prophecies blind them to all the rest they only saw Christ coming in power that's all they saw this couldn't be him even though all the rest of the prophecies were being fulfilled all around them because he didn't come on you know just wiping out the Romans this couldn't be him the Pharisees were a Jewish
(23:34) religious sect and many held minor yet well-paying jobs in the Roman government Nicodemus who a Pharisee came to Jesus secret secretly admitted that many knew that Jesus was sent by God he admitted that that kapus the high priest and the others were afraid of losing their power and even their jobs and maybe even being accused of sedition and losing their lives which they figured Jesus might be planning and and so they began to plot how to kill him but you know that to me that's really hard to understand if if
(24:15) you really believe that Jesus was sent by God how could you plot to kill him I mean that's just goes over my head humanly weak fear Jesus had tried to explain to Nicodemus the need for two comings or advents one of rejections and suffering in Isaiah 53 and one in glory Isaiah 11 he tried to explain the need to be born again that the kingdom could not come until a new spirit birth at the time of the Resurrection but he didn't understand he still really didn't understand so let's look at those two uh different desp descriptions of his
(24:59) comings Isaiah 53 let's go there first Isaiah 53: 2 through 11 on rejection and prophetic about Christ life and death now as you go through think about all the fulfillments as we read this fulfillments that we see you know after the fact verse two of Isaiah 53 for he shall grow up before him as a tender plant and as a root out of dry dry ground he has no form or comeliness and when we see him there's no beauty that we should desire him he is despised and rejected by Men A Man of Sorrows and acquainted with grief and we hid as it were our faces
(25:47) from him he was despised and we did not esteem him surely he has borne our greef and carried our sorrows yet we esteemed him stricken Smitten by God and Afflicted but he was wounded for our transgression he was bruised for our iniquities the chastisement for our peace was upon him and by his stripes we are healed all we like sheep have gone astray we have turned everyone to his own way and the lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all he was oppressed and he was afflicted yet he opened not his mouth he was led as a SL a l to the slaughter and
(26:30) as a sheep before it shears is silent so he opened not his mouth he was taken from prison and from judgment and who will declare his generation for he was cut off from the land of the living of the transgressions of my people he was stricken and they made his grave with a wicked at least you know at that point at least they intended to but it ended up but with the rich at his death because he had done no violence there was any deceit in his mouth yet it please the Lord to bruise him he has put him to grief when you
(27:08) make his soul an offering for sin he shall see his seed he shall prolong his days and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand he shall see the labor of his soul and be satisfied and by his knowledge my righteous servant shall justify many for he shall bear their iniquities it's amazing thinking about all those prophecies and that that first coming and you know that whole chapter had to do with that but let's look at the scriptures um uh about his second coming these are prophetic future events Isaiah 11 verse
(27:53) 1-5 see this is what Nicodemus didn't understand about the two the two comings the advents Isaiah 11:1 there shall come forth a rod from the stem of Jesse and a branch shall grow out of his roots the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him the spirit of wisdom and understanding the spirit of counsel and might the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord his Delight is in the fear of the Lord and he shall not judge by the sight of his eyes and are decided by the hearing of his ears but with righteousness he shall Jud
(28:28) judge the poor and decide with equity for the meek of the earth he shall strike the Earth with the rod of his mouth and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked righteousness shall be the belt of his loins and faithfulness the belt of his waist see that's what the Jews wanted to see on that first coming they wanted to see exactly this no one really understood the Dual nature or the time differences between those prophecies you know like a 2,000 year separation so as the Pharisees went so went the Jews with jesus' death and a certain
(29:10) acceptance of the falsehood about him being stolen from the grave or from the tomb the Jews went about their business continuing to look for a messiah to this day or at least some of them do we see the world heading toward and and desperately needing the second coming of Jesus Christ which was also highly prophesied that thread about a messiah doing the things in isai in Isaiah in a second coming carries on in the New Testament Jesus himself when he was here the first time said he would return there there are many more prophecies
(29:55) that are yet to be fulfilled that's look at some of those in John 14:3 John 14:3 he says if I go and prepare a place for you this is Jesus speaking I will come again and receive you to myself that where I am there you may be also the Angels confirm this in Acts 111 acts 111 who also said men of Galilee why do you stand gazing up into heaven the same Jesus who was taken up from you into heaven will so come in like manner as you saw go into heaven and Paul emphasized his belief in first Thessalonians 1 Thessalonians
(30:53) 4 verse 13 1 Thessalonians 4:13 but I do not want you to be ignorant Brethren Brethren concerning those who have fallen asleep lest you sorrow as others who have no hope for if we believe that Jesus died and rose again even so God will bring him bring with him those who sleep in Jesus for this we say to you by the word of the Lord that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout with a voice of an archangel and with the trumpet of God
(31:34) and the dead in Christ will rise first then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with him in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and thus we shall always be with the Lord therefore Comfort one another with these words and where will we be with with Christ on that day Zechariah 14 4 Zechariah 14:4 and in that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives which faces Jerusalem on the East and the Mount of ol shall be split into two from east to west making a very large Valley half of the mountain shall move
(32:23) toward the North and half of it toward the South you know the the early Church believe these things Edward Gibbon in his book The Decline and fall of the Roman Empire said this quote the ancient and popular doctrine of the Millenium was intimately connected with the second coming of Christ as the works of creation had been finished in 6 days their duration in their present State according to a tradition attributed to the the Prophet Elijah was fixed at 6,000 years by the same analogy it was inferred that this long period of Labor
(33:06) and contention which was now almost elapsed would be succeeded by a joyful Sabbath of a thousand years and that Christ with the triumphant band of the Saints and elect who had escaped death or who had been miraculously revived would Reign upon Earth till the time appointed for the last and general election that's Edward Gibbon volume 11 but that truth was gradually rejected Gibbon goes on to show that the fact that Jesus would come a second time to intervene in world affairs it gradually became regarded as an
(33:50) error within a century and a half after Christ's Ascension it was treated as a as a profound allegory not to be taken literally the doctrine that Christ would return to the Earth was at length rejected as the Absurd invention of heresy and fanaticism and we believe these words of Christ the Angels the apostles prophets the belief of the early church okay I've tried to show you what the Messianic prophecies are but you know why do we need them what do they do for us now and I have three points first and most obvious they point to and prove who the
(34:44) Messiah is the Old Testament they say has contains over 300 references to the Jesus as the Messiah actually I I have a paper that was printed off the internet or wherever and it listed 351 different prophecies concerning uh Jesus Christ the first one is is considered Genesis 3:15 Genesis 3:15 it says I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your seed and her seed he shall bruise your head and you shall bruise his heel now chronologically speaking you know that's about 4,000 years before his death which uh Revelation
(35:38) 138 Revelation 138 where it says all who dwell on the earth will worship Him whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the lamb slain from the foundation of the world from the beginning to the end some some Skeptics say that Jesus deliberately fulfilled prophecy many he did some he did but you know that doesn't take away from the fact that they were fulfilled you know as an example they might say about his triumphal entry into Jerusalem you know when he he found this donkey and rode in on this donkey let's
(36:19) look at that in Matthew 21 Matthew 21 verse1 now when they drew near Jerusalem and came to Beth at the Mount of Olives then Jesus said sent two disciples saying to them go into the village opposite you and IM immediately you will find a donkey tide and a Colt with her loose them and bring them to me and if anyone says anything to you you shall say the Lord has need of them and immediately he will send them all this was done that might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet saying tell the daughter of Zion
(37:04) behold your king is coming to you lowly and sitting on a donkey a c the full of a donkey that refers to Zechariah 9:9 so I mean did Jesus fulfill that you know on purpose yes and no also you must remember many of the prophecies were Beyond human control such as Place manner time of birth and the same with many aspects of his death nobody could control those things at least human the sacrifice of Jesus Christ as a true Passover Lamb on the Passover day is one of the major prophecy fulfillments recorded in the gospel in fact they say that there
(37:53) were 28 prophecies fulfilled in that one day Cru CR fiction day 28 prophecies now that brings up a fascinating thing uh there was a an article written by Peter Peter Stoner in science speaks in 1963 shows that coincidence is ruled out by the science of probability now odds and probabilities have always uh fascinated me you I used to carry around in my wallet a little article I I found in the newspaper once telling me the odds on winning the lottery you know just in case I ever felt the urged to do it I would pull
(38:37) that out and look at it you know it said that you were 600 more time more likely to die of lightning than when the lottery so I I've never played the lottery anyway in this article by using this science in in reference to eight just eight specific prophecies about the Messiah we find that the chance that any man might have lived down to the present time and fulfilled all eight prophecies is 1 and 10 the 17th power that's a one with 17 zeros behind it now if you're not into math that's a staggering number I mean it's just
(39:19) incomprehensible they said if you laid that many silver dollars on the face of Texas it would cover the state 2 feet deep the whole state of Texas then blindfold a man tell him to walk wherever throughout the state you know blindfolded dig around after he's walked around the whole state and reach down and pick one up what chances would he have of getting the right one just the same chance that the prophets would have had of writing these eight prophecies and having them come true in any one man providing they wrote them in their
(39:55) own wisdom now consider 48 prophecies the odds go up to 1 and 10 to the 157th power I mean that's such a staggering number that you know instead of silver dollars you know on Texas I think you'd have to start putting electrons you know find the right electron as you stumble around it's just beyond understanding now consider 300 I mean it's just you know how could anyone doubt that Jesus was the Messiah now you know our faith now shouldn't be based on statistics but I I did find this very interesting and and reasonable
(40:44) reassuring okay the second point about the mess Messianic prophecies the second reason they prove that God is the only true God and that he has infinite wisdom and power power and knowledge these these prophecies were Beyond any kind of human manipulation and chance someone had to bring them about fulfilled prophecy is one of the proofs that God exist look at Isaiah 46 Isaiah 46:9 Isaiah 46 9-11 verse N9 remember the former things of old for I am God and there is no other I am God and there is none like me declaring the end from the beginning and
(41:43) from ancient times things that are not yet done saying my counsel shall stand and I will do all my pleasure calling a bird of prey from the East the man who executes my counsel from a far country indeed I have spoken it I will also bring it to pass I have purposed it I will also do it this is It's is it's as if God sees all things at once all time at once the meaning of time is just totally different to God you know our our our minds stagger at the complexities of all the intricate detail of you know you look at all those interwoven prophecies
(42:31) and fulfillments and what had to happen here and there and you know the human mind just boggles Isaiah 48: 3-5 Isaiah 48: 3-5 I have declared the former things from the beginning they went forth from my mouth and I caused them to hear it suddenly I did them and they came to pass because I knew that you were obstinate and your neck was as iron senu and your brow bronze even from the beginning I've declared it to you before it came to pass I proclaimed it to you lest you should say my idol has done them and my carved image and my molded
(43:16) image have commanded them so God is the one that brought these to pass all these prophecies man couldn't have done it the third reason for the prophecies they show the inspiration of the Bible the Bible was written over a 1500 years span by over 40 different authors from many different walks of life you had fishermen you had Physicians all these different people that wrote them in different situations on three different continents in three different languages about hundreds of different subjects yet there's a thread
(44:02) going all the way through the Bible from the beginning Genesis to Revelation and that thread is Jesus Christ all the way through it 2 Timothy 3:15 I'm going to read a few scriptures and we'll let the Bible answer itself about about the inspiration of the Bible and that thread of Jesus Christ 2 Timothy 3:15 and that from childhood you have known the holy scriptures which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus in John 539 John 539 through 40 and 45 through 47 I'm read this have the new living the
(44:56) new living trans translation verse 39 of John 5 you search the scriptures because you think they give you eternal life but the scriptures point to me yet you refuse to come to me and receive this life yet it isn't I who will accuse you before the father Moses will accuse you yes Moses in whom you put your hopes if you really believe Jes G if you really believe Moses you would believe me because he wrote about me but since you don't believe what he wrote how will you believe what I say let's go to Luke 24 Luke 24: 24-27 this is this is about
(45:47) the road to emus you know it's on the same day of Jesus Christ's resurrection and he appeared to two disciples that were walking on this road down towards Jus talking about all of the events that just happened in Jerusalem now they didn't recognize Jesus and he started explaining to him all of these events verse 24 and certain of those who were with us these are the two men talking went with us to the tomb and they found it just as the woman had said but him they did not see then he Jesus Christ said to them oh
(46:30) foolish ones and slow of heart to believe in all the prophets have spoken ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into his glory and beginning at Moses and the prophets he expounded to them all the scriptures the things concerning himself basically he started explaining to him the Messianic prophecies wouldn't you have liked to have been there to hear that verse 32 and they said to one another did not our heart burn within us while we walked while he talked with us on the road and while he opened the scriptures
(47:09) to us he appeared to them again later we see that in Luke 24:44 then he said to them these are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the law of Moses and the prophets and the s psms concerning me and he opened their understanding that they might comprehend the scriptures then he said to them thus it is written and thus it was necessary for the Christ to rise to suffer and rise from the dead the third day and that repentance and remission of sins should
(47:45) be preached in his name to All Nations beginning at Jerusalem and you are witnesses of all these things so you know understand understanding what the M Messianic prophecies are and what they prove that Jesus was a messiah that there is an all powerful God who can make these prophecies happen and that they show the inspiration of the Bible but that leaves us with just one question you know what is our part what do we do with all of that second Peter 3: 1-14 second Peter 3 put yourself into these verses this was written to us
(48:38) also second Peter 3:1 Bel beloved I now write to you The Second Epistle in both of which I stir up your minds pure Minds by way of reminder that you may be mindful of The Words which were spoken before by the holy prophets and of the the Commandment of us the Apostles of the Lord and Savior knowing this first that scoffers will come in the last days walking according to their own lust and saying where is a pro promise of his coming for since the fathers F asleep all things continue as they were from the beginning
(49:16) of creation how many times have you heard that from people saying well you know it's just so many times over the years you know things are just going to keep on going along you get a prediction of gloom and doom and the end of the world and nothing happens and so therefore things are just going to keep on going the way they always have so don't worry about it I've heard it many times verse 5 for this they willfully forget that by the word of God the heavens were of old and the Earth standing out of water and in
(49:50) the water you know think back think back about all the things we know in perspective about God and by creation and things that we've learned verse six by which the world then existed perish being flooded with water but the heavens and the Earth which are now preserved by the same word are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and predition of ungodly men but beloved beloved do not forget this one thing that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day the Lord is not Slack concerning
(50:27) his promise as some count slackness but his longsuffering toward us not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance but the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise and the elements will melt with fervent heat both the works the earth and the works that are in them will be burned up verse 11 therefore I like the word therefore you know looking back what you know you just read or what I've just said therefore since all these things will be
(51:03) dissolved what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness it comes right down to our responsibilities all we know and what we see what has happened in the past and what will happen in the future with the understanding that God brings these things to pass what is our responsibility verse 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God because of which the heavens will be dissolved being on fire and the elements will melt with fervent heat now we know what is ahead nevertheless we according to his
(51:49) promise look for new heavens and a new Earth in which righteousness dwells therefore we have another therefore therefore beloved looking forward to these things be diligent diligent in other words be active be focused be steadfast to be found by him in Grace without spot and blameless Verse 18 but grow in Grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to him be the glory both thou and forever amen one other verse last verse that we can turn to is John 20:30 John 20: 30 and 31 and truly Jesus did many other signs
(52:45) in the presence of his disciples which are not written in this book verse 31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ the son of God and that believing you may have life in his name brethren we have responsibilities you you can't just let this kind of information go in one year and not the other you know you've got to do something with it you've got to grow in Grace and knowledge and in peace and be diligent and blameless and we've got to love one another so I hope this has help maybe uh
(53:28) help you to see a bit more of be aware of the Messianic prophecies what they are and why they are you know that they prove who the Messiah is and and why God inspired the prophets to record them for us remember they point to a return of Jesus Christ in power to save this world from destroying itself we can be certain of that we can be certain and we can live our lives in faith and overcome waiting and and hoping for that day soon
