Why did God command that the Jubilee trumpet be sounded on the Day of Atonement? The ancient Jubilee released servants, restored families and returned inherited land, but it also pointed toward a far greater restoration. Jesus Christ’s healings gave a preview of what His government will bring to the whole earth. Before that worldwide Jubilee can begin, Satan must be removed so humanity can finally be freed from his deception and rule.
You know, biblically, we know, Bible enthusiasts studying their scriptures know this to be true. God often times, many times uses physical examples of things to teach us spiritual lessons. I want to begin with this idea today. So for example, Israel dwelt in booths, literally built booths for the for the feast of tabernacles, right? Picturing something.
What did they do during the days of unleavened bread? They ate unleavened bread, but also removed the leavenvening. We know these things. Picture spiritual principles, spiritual concepts. We understand that principle because it continues today for us. For example, baptism, a physical act picturing a spiritual event.
Correct? Over in Romans chapter 6 and verse 4, let's just launch ourselves into our message here. Romans chapter 6 and verse 4 where Paul describing the reality or the spiritual issue or the spiritual concept behind baptism says here in verse four of Romans chapter 6. He says, "Therefore, we were buried with him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
" So, we understand baptism pictures us burying our old self in death in the water and coming up a new man, typified, of course, by Christ. We understand then and we can see the physical act connected with a spiritual reality. This is a very common way in which God teaches us. We have real actions and then God gives meaning to those actions that go beyond those actions.
And I want you to see that principle clearly because it's it's the it's the embedded principle that we use to understand the connections I want to make again on the event that happened in the Old Testament on the day of atonement. that connects Isaiah 35 or Isaiah 34, Isaiah 61, Luke chapter 4, all connected together to Leviticus 25 through an event that happens on this day of atonement.
So I want you to understand there is a connection and then I want to show you what that is very clearly. I want to just be meticulous today about this connection for you. Let's begin back in Leviticus 25 and we'll read about what happened on this day. Leviticus 25 beginning in verse 8. Verse eight says, "And you shall count seven Sabbaths of years for yourself.
" seven times seven years. And the time of the seven Sabbaths of years shall be to you 49 years. Then you shall cause the trumpet of the Jubilee to sound on the 10th day of the seventh month. On the day of atonement, you shall make the trumpet to sound throughout all your land. Verse 10 says, ' And you shall consecrate the 50th year and proclaim liberty throughout all the land to all its inhabitants.
It shall be a jubilee for you. And each of you shall return to his possession, and each of you shall return to his family. Let's look at a let's look at the term jubilee. Jubilee is an English word. So remember we are we're reading translated words. And so the word under that what is the word that is translated jubilee. That word is the Hebrew word yobel.
Yo b e l yel. The dictionary identifies this first with a ram or ram's horn or a cornet. Now it isn't the sound. It isn't the instrument itself that's being referred to here by Jubilee. It is the sound the instrument makes which is being referred to. This is what I want you to understand. It is the sounding of that horn that announces God's decree of liberty.
Okay. So God established the year. It is the 50th year. God established what happens on that? A hornet is sound. A trumpet is sounded. Uh 49 atonements in a row will go by and there will be no sound on the 50th. On the day of atonement, there will finally be a sound, a trumpet. There is no trumpet blown on the day of atonement.
Any other day, any other year except the 50th. So imagine you've been keeping the day of atonement for the last 49 years and you've not heard a sound. Well, 50 years is a long time. So then the day of atonement comes and all of a sudden a sounding trumpet happens. You know what that is? It's the only time it'll ever be done on this day.
It is the sound of the Jubilee. Liberty decreed by God throughout all the land and all the inhabitants of the land. Verse 10 tells us the scope. The jubilee reversed all the conditions that had separated people from their freedom, from their family, from their possessions. Jubilee restores all that. verses 23 and 24.
We're still in Leviticus 25. Verse 23 says, "The land shall not be sold, for the land is mine, says God. You are strangers and sojourners with me. and in all the land of your possession, you shall grant redemption of the land. This isn't the generosity of the people who happen to acquire their neighbors properties because they were poor or destitute or in need of reliefs financially.
And oh, the 50th year comes along, so I guess I'll just voluntarily give it back to you. This is a decree by God sounded by the trumpet on the day of atonement in that year. It is God's command and the land is his. God gave that land by tribes and by family to the children of Israel as an inheritance, a permanent inheritance.
They could not sell it permanently. That's why the land the best way I can think to explain what would happen is what we think of renting something or leasing something as a temporary way to own something. But God said you could not sell your property. So the way we would understand it is you could lease that property during the 49 years between Jubilees.
For example, verse 15 says, same chapter, verse 15 says, according to the number of years after the Jubilee, you shall buy from your neighbor, and according to the number of years of crops, he shall sell to you. according to the multitude of years, you shall increase its price. And according to the fewer number of years, you shall diminish its price.
For he sells to you according to the number of years of the crops. Therefore, you shall not oppress one another, but you shall fear your God, for I am the Lord your God." The God of Israel has made a decree that on the 50th year, that land goes back. And it doesn't matter how much you've enjoyed it. It doesn't matter how much you've prospered by it.
If you bought that or rented that from your neighbor, you had to return it on the 50th year. Knowing that, of course, Israel misbehaved over the years where they would deny actually helping somebody because nope, the Jubilee is coming and I don't want to risk any financial losses here. That kind of thing pervaded Israel's history.
But a buyer is purchasing the use of a land for a period of time rather than gaining an unlimited claim to another family's inheritance. The Jubilee year brought everything back under the original dispensation. The original gifts that God had given, the original inheritance went back to the owners God had given it to.
So when the Jubilee trumpet sounds, it announced that certain losses had finally reached their end. Somebody might have sold themselves into slavery. We would call it servitude, for example. I'm going to cover that in just a minute. So I want to make sure that we understand from the beginning that ju when the jubilee sounds God is using this day for restitution for restoring and for releasing and it's indicated by the sound of a trumpet or cornet you know and what that sound what that would what that would sound like to them would have to be
profound if you were the person who had lost your property or had to sell it. If you were the person who had to sell themsself into slavery service to another person, if you'd been doing that for 40 years, would you be looking forward to the jubilee? If your family was enjoying their property, but you weren't because you were in servitude, would you be looking forward to the jubilee? I think absolutely.
The longer you're in servitude, most likely the more you would be looking forward to that release, there's a connection between this and the coming millennium. So, what I want to make sure that you see today, let's look at another word. Let's go back and look at this word that I introduced to you in the trumpets message.
The the Hebrew word is you the English word is liberty. Under that is the Hebrew word dor. D er o r. When you think of freedom, liberty, the way that we use it in modern vernacular, how do you how do you picture that? What does that look like to you? What does it sound like? What does it feel like? What does it what comes to your mind? I think as Americans, as spoiled as we are as Americans, we think of how free we are to move about, own property, buy and sell.
work where I want. Don't work where I don't want. I'm free. I can say what I want to whomever I want because I'm free. Isn't that the way that Americans see freedom? I can practice whatever lifestyle I want because I'm free. That is not what this word is about. This word liberty as it's used, this word dor is only used seven times.
It has a very narrow meaning. It means to be released from servitude, from slavery, from the authority of another. That is the very narrow application of this term to be released from being under the authority of another as a slave or a servant. Okay? This isn't the way we would think of liberty then, is it? Because slaveryy's been ancient history for this country for a long time now.
I've never been a slave. I don't even know what it would look like. I mean, I can see it. I've watched movies. I have an idea. Doesn't look pleasant to me. Looks kind of awful the way human beings treat one another. Freedom as here is described as freedom from that. Well, the question naturally begs itself, what what freedom are we lacking in this regard? What is the promise that's being talked about here? Well, I gave you the definition from Brown Driver Briggs, which says that this word is a flowing free run liberty.
It's specifically, but here's what I want you to know. Brown Driver Briggs, which is a very good authoritative dictionary, specifically groups. Leviticus 25:10, its use of the word, Isaiah 61 verse one, where it is also used, and Jeremiah 34, where the word is also used. Again, it groups them all because they all mean the same thing.
It is the same word and the context help us to clearly understand its meaning. Let's look here. We're still here in Leviticus. Let's let's let's drop down to verse 39 and notice the direct connection between the Jubilee and slavery liberty from that. Verse 39 says, "And if one of your brethren who dwells by you becomes poor, sells himself to you, you shall not compel him to serve as a slave.
As a hired servant, and a sojourer, he shall be with you and shall serve you until the year of Jubilee." And then he shall depart from you. He and his children with him shall return to his own family. He shall return to the possession of his father's clean slate. What's the nearest thing we have to a quote unquote clean slate? And it isn't a clean slate.
The nearest thing we have if you have found yourself in the worst possible financial circumstances is bankruptcy. There's no mercy in bankruptcy. It follows you around for a long time. We've lost some pretty fundamental principles that God tried to give to us. And here we have a good example of what he intended, which was absolute freedom, restoration of property, of possession, of family, reunification, release from debt.
All of that combined on this one day over the next year. This is what your reward was for the Jubilee. the blessing of the jubilee. So this helps us to understand the liberty that God had in mind directly connected here to slavery becoming a servant of another and serving living dwelling being as a slave to them until the jubilee.
So a man can have financial obligations and still be free to go home at night. He can choose where he lives. He can direct his own labor. But a servant living under another man's authority does not possess that same freedom. Jubilee Dor applied to the man himself and ended another man's claim over his service.
You'll see as we start to walk through this, you're going to very easily be able to start seeing the spiritual connections here. When God proclaimed Dor, the servant walked out. He took his children. He returned to his family. He res returned to his possessions. He returned to his life. The essential fact is this.
He is released from another person's authority. Jeremiah uses the same word during during the Babylonian siege of Jerusalem. I want you to see this in Jeremiah chapter 34. Jeremiah chapter 34:es 8 and 9 the heading of my section treacherous treatment of slaves. This is the word verse 8. This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord after King Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people who were at Jerusalem to proclaim liberty to them.
Dur that every man should set free his male and female slave. This is what Dor means. a Hebrew man or woman that no one should keep a Jewish brother in bondage. So Jeremiah simply shows Dor here operating exactly as Leviticus established it. People in slavery were set free. Now the people initially obeyed, but if you keep reading, they didn't like the result of not having their servants any longer.
And so they took them back. But the issue here is clearly bondage under another human being. That usage becomes very important. So this is the physical example. And Jubilee gives us the principle that God intends for the physical to be released from his servants or his servant his service as a slave bondervant. Now, the liberty that's referred to here both in Leviticus and in Jeremiah becomes prophetic for us in Isaiah chapter 61, which is what we read last week.
But let's go ahead and go there again. Isaiah 61, the first two verses of Isaiah 61. The spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the Lord has anointed me to preach the good tidings to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted to proclaim droor to the captives. You see the direct connection between being a captive and the freedom given to the captive dro and the opening of the p of the prison to those who are bound to proclaim the acceptable year of the lord and the day of vengeance of our god to comfort all who mourn. This is the first verses of
Isaiah 61. Again, we see here that this word liberty is dur. So Isaiah takes this word that comes out of Leviticus 25 used in a very specific way and he gives it the meaning that it has and he uses it prophetically. There is a future time in which Dor is going to happen. Captives are going to be freed. Obviously the picture has grown.
We move from one Israelite in one circumstance under slavery or servitude to a whole bunch of people when Christ returns. That's the prophetic picture that we have. There's a dro coming for all of mankind as I will make the case for you today. We go back to Jesus Christ time. Luke chapter 4. Jesus Christ, the God of the Old Testament who inspired Isra or Isaiah's writings takes that same scroll, Luke chapter 4.
I'm going to start here in verse 16. It says, "So he came to Nazareth where he had also where he had been brought up. And as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up to read. And he was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah." And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written.
And he quotes directly, verse 18, "The spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.
What I attempted to show in the previous message was that Christ stopped here on purpose. This was Christ saying the things that applied to him. Now these things applied to him and he was very clear. Verse 21, he began to say to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." Did he deliver relief of blindness to everyone who is blind in his day? No, he did not.
Did he unstopp the ears of the deaf of everyone who was deaf in his day? No, he did not. Did he free the slaves who were in slavery in his day? No, he did not. So, we can't possibly say that this was completely fulfilled, but it was partially fulfilled because he came. Did he give sight? Yes. To some. What I wanted you to see was what Christ did do.
Showed us the the intent and the heart of God himself. We looked at the issue of the man who was blind from birth. The scripture simply says he came back with his sight. You know the best that we can do. We can give a person sight. It has been done. We can only give them the ability to see. We cannot give a person the ability to process what they see.
That was the story that I read to you of the example that was given when they gave a person his full sight back and how difficult it was for him. The best a human being can do is give a person the ability to see. We can't help them to process what they see. Christ gave the man the ability to see completely.
He was utterly healed in every conceivable way. Not months of therapy, not years of trying to figure things out. Let me turn over here and give you another example. I want you to see clearly that this is the concept that is behind the jubilee that's to come. Christ came to show us what's coming when he returns to this earth.
Luke 13:es 15 and 16. Here's another example of Christ. Okay, I'm going to start here in verse 10. If you're notetakers, the crux verses are 13 or 15 and 16, but I want to begin in verse 10. Now he, that is Christ, was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity 18 years and was bent over and in could no way raise herself up.
But when Jesus saw her, he called her to him and said to her,"Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity." What's the best that we are capable of doing when it comes to healing somebody from a serious injury? We can get you on the road to recovery. But you're going to have to go through physical therapy weeks, months, possibly years in some cases.
If you had a severe spinal injury like this and we were able to fix that problem, are you then instantly walking? No. You're going to have to work through physical therapy to get your body conditioned to walking again. Like this is what I want us to see. She was immediately completely healed. We have no way to do that. Only God can do that.
When Christ came and did these kinds of healings, so complete and we know by our own experiences that we have no way of doing that, that this can only be coming from God. And when Christ says that this has been fulfilled in your hearing, this is what's coming for this world. Stop and think with me for just a minute. We walk through what's coming during trumpets.
We have three and a half years of the wrath of Satan called the tribulation where he's literally utterly trying to get man to destroy himself. The final year, the seven trumpets of the day of the Lord sound, the wrath of God when judgment comes to this earth. What is it going to be like for those who live through all of that? Do you think healing will be needed? Would it be the kind of healing that we human beings can do? Or is it going to be the kind of healing that Jesus Christ showed God will do? There won't be the temporary fix that we're capable of. It will be real,
thorough healing. And they will need it. Now, let's read verse 15. It says, 'The Lord answered him and said, Okay, well, let's hold on. Let's let's keep reading here. The ruler of the synagogue in verse 14 answers with indignation because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath. And he said to the crowd, "There are six days on which men ought to work.
Therefore, come and be healed on them." That is a very callous attitude, not on the Sabbath day. And then of course Christ answers and says to him, "You hypocrite, does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall and lead it away to water it?" Of course we do. Not going to let the animals starve to death or die of thirst or whatever.
We feed our animals and care for them on the same Sabbath day. And so Christ says in verse 16, "So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound, think of it, for 18 years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath." Who would deny her that? Notice who is to blame. whom Satan has bound. That is an analogy for Satan's role today.
The earth is bound under his rulership. God is going to loose those bonds for us, for the whole world to no longer be under his rule. Release is only one part of Jubilee. A man can walk free from service and still return to a farm that's been ruined, a land that's been destroyed, buildings burned. War does that kind of thing.
We read through the events of the end time and we see destruction clearly outlined for us. Massive amounts of destruction. This land needs healing. God's millennial work includes restitution because he's going to repair what generations of rebellion have damaged. Peter used a word translated restoration in the New King James when speaking about the return of Jesus Christ.
The King James version uses the word restitution which fits the idea that we're examining today. The event is tied directly to Christ's return. Let's look at Acts chapter 3 verses 19- 21. Reserve the right to start earlier if I need to. Well, let's just read what what it says here.
It says, "Repent therefore," Peter speaking here. Repent, therefore, and be converted. I think I have this correct. 3:19 that your sins may be blotted out so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord and that he may send Jesus Christ who was preached to you before whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things which God has spoken of by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.
Think about that. Since the world began, God has known that a time of refreshing, of restoration was going to have to come to the whole world. It's why he sent his son. And that's why his son is coming back. A restoration is coming. So the millennium is a time when God begins to fix what mankind has broken. Isaiah describes the land that had become the way that it needs to be healed from.
Isaiah chapter 35. Isaiah 35. Uh the first six verses here, Isaiah 35:1 says, "The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them, and the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose. It shall blossom abundantly and rejoice, even with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the excellence of Carmel and Chiron.
They shall see the glory of the Lord, the excellency of our God. Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. Say to those who are fearful, "Be strong. Do not fear. Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.
" Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened. The ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then the lame shall leap like a deer, and the tongue of the dumb sing, for waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, and the streams in the desert. The parched ground shall become a pool, the thirsty land, springs of water in the habitation of jackals where each lay.
There shall be grass with the reeds and rushes. What a beautiful vision of the future that's coming after all the destruction, after all the abuse that we do to this planet. After everything that happens during the tribulation and the day of the Lord and this planet is literally turned upside down and inside out, this is what God is going to do to heal that land.
This is what's coming. This is the jubilee that is yet to come. This is the connection we need to see. God is going to repair the damage that's been produced during the rule of man. Ezekiel gives another picture describing Israel's return. Cities had been destroyed. They're going to be rebuilt. Ruined places are going to be inhabited again.
Let's go over here to Ezekiel 36. Ezekiel 36 verse 33. Verse 33 says, "Thus says the Lord God, on the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will also enable you to dwell in the cities, and the ruins shall be rebuilt. The desolate land shall be tilled instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass by." Verse 35 says, "So, so they will say, this land that was desolate has become like a garden of Eden, and the wasted, desolate, and ruined cities are now fortified and inhabited.
Then the nations which are left all around you shall know that I, the Lord, have rebuilt the ruined places, and planted what was desolate. I the Lord have spoken it and I will do it. This is what's coming. This is what the Jubilee always pictured. This sort of restitution and and release and restoration. God repairing what we destroy.
God takes responsibility for the rebuilding. So we know that it is going to happen. But we remember that the Jubilee also restored inheritance. A family could lose the use of its inherited land for decades, three, four decades, five, close to five in the worst possible c scenario, and yet they would receive their land back.
It was theirs. Now, that element has a direct prophetic counterpart. In the millennium, God repeatedly promised that he would gather Israel and Judah from the nations and bring them back to the promised land, which was their land. It was given to them by God as a permanent inheritance, and he's going to give it back to them.
That is a very particular Jubilee promise. Ezekiel chapter 20, excuse me, we're still here in Ezekiel 36 verse 24 says, "For I will take you, verse 24, I will take you from among the nations, gather you out of all the countries and bring you into your own land." Verse 28 says, "Then you shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers.
You shall be my people and I will be your God." Hence at that theme we talked about when we went through the Torah series at how God has always wanted to dwell with his people that from the very mo early moments that we read in Genesis of God walking in the Garden of Eden with his creation that this has been his desire to be with his creation to be their God and that they would be his people.
He's going to keep his promise and he's going to bring Israel back to their promised land. Land restored. Notice the land hasn't moved. The people did. And so God moves them back. Ancient Israel before the Jubilee, if you had sold or left your land to somebody else, the land didn't move. You did. When you were restored to your land, you went back to that property.
And this is the clear vision that we see that's going to happen during the millennium. They don't get given a different land as though that fulfills the promise. They're going back to the promised land. Ezekiel develops the same promise with Israel and Judah, brought together again as one people in Ezekiel 37, one chapter over.
And you'll remember that that chapter begins with the bones coming together of a physical people being restored to a physical life. We know that that happens at the second resurrection. And what does God promise about that? Verse 21 says, "Then say to them, thus says the Lord God, surely I will take the children of Israel from among the nations wherever they have gone and will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land, and I will make them one nation in the land on the mountains of Israel.
And one king shall be king over them all. They shall no longer be two nations. They shall nor shall they ever be divided into two kingdoms again. The ancient Jubilee prevented a family from losing forever the possession that God had given their family. It was yours because God had given it. And he still remember said that it was mine to give.
It is his to decide what happens to that land. and he said, "It is yours. I give it to you and it will be yours for a permanent gift." The millennial restoration brings the descendants of Israel back after centuries of scattering and national loss to the promised land, their land. Amos adds a bit of permanence to this picture over in Amos chapter 9.
Helps us to see that this is what God wanted and it's what he's going to do. Amos 9:es 14 and 15. I will bring back the captives of my people Israel. They shall build the waste cities and inhabit them. They shall plant vineyards and drink wine from them. They shall also make gardens and eat fruit from them.
I will plant them in their land, and no longer shall they be pulled up from the land I have given them, says the Lord your God. Israel is not going to lose the promised land in the future once they've had it returned to them. The millennium is where restitution, release, and inheritance begin to come together. The vision of the Jubilee of ancient Israel comes together with these same elements during the millennium.
Only the millennium, it's going to be a worldscale jubilee. It's not just for an isolated people. It's for the whole world. The benefits, the blessings of Jubilee are going to extend to the entire world. The problem is somebody stands in the way of that. We began to look at the first element of what's in the way of that and it is man ruling man.
trumpets deals with this problem with Christ coming and putting down all the governments of men. Jeremiah chapter 10 verse 23 reminds us of the problem with human rulers. We're just not very good at it. Jeremiah chapter 10 verse 23 it says, "Oh Lord, I know verse 23 of Jeremiah 10. Oh Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself.
It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps. I guess we've had about what 6,000 years or so of history to prove that that's basically spot-on. We're terrible at ruling ourselves. But if we would just yield, there is a perfect king coming. under whose rule the whole world will finally see peace.
No more waring nations, peoples, leaders. This is this is what's has to come. Man cannot be left to rule himself. That's what the feast of trumpets pictures is Christ coming and putting down all the governments of men. One king of kings and lord of lords to rule the world. But alongside human rule today stands another authority.
That authority is not dealt with on the day of trumpets. That authority is dealt with on the day of atonement. That's what this day that we celebrate. We observe this coming Monday pictures. What happens to the ruler of this age when all the governments of man have been put down? Can't God then bring the jubilee for the millennium? The answer is no.
Why not? Well, Paul tells us part over in 2 Corinthians, chapter 4. I'm just going to read from verse one here. Uh I'll pick up a few verses here. It says in verse one of chapter 4, "Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart, but we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in the craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth, commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.
But even if our gospel, which is the gospel of Jesus Christ, the kingdom of God. But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, who cannot see, whose minds the God of this age has blinded. Therefore, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God should shine on them, that they would come under judgment without being without having a clear understanding, without even being able to see.
God does not want them to come under judgment today. And he allows them therefore to be blind. And you and I would be blind if God does not remove the shackles. He allows us to see past the deception or we would be deceived with the rest of the world. We were not innocent. As Paul also makes clear, until God called us, we were just like the rest of the world.
Over in Ephesians chapter 2, verse one says, Ephesians 2 verse one says, "And you he made alive who were dead as the world." We just read what that meant. Blinded equals death spiritually. It says, "Who were dead in trespasses and sins in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children
of wrath, just as the others. We've been called out of that or we would still be that. That would be defining us. Same as the world except God has rescued us from the capttor. We got called out of this. Revelation expands the scale of his work over in Revelation chapter 12. Revelation chapter 12. Verse 9 says, verse 9, "So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world.
He was cast to the earth and his angels were cast out with him. He deceives the whole world. There's not little pockets of humanity save the church. Those whom God individually has called out of this world. The whole world is laboring under Satan's deception. Now place that idea beside the Jubilee concept of Dor.
We are a world held captive by Satan. Bound as we see in the analogy Christ used of the woman whose spine was bound by Satan and he released her. So he is going to release this world from Satan's mastery, lordship, whatever you want to call it, his rule over this world. Satan is identified as the ruler whose deception reaches mankind everywhere.
For the millennial droor to reach the nations, the ruler who blinds this world has to be removed. How in the world does Christ bring the truth to the world which is still allowed to be deceived? This is why what we read in Revelation chapter 20 as a sequence is very important for us. Revelation 19 is the end of trumpets, the end of the day of the Lord Jesus Christ standing victorious over all the governments of men.
Then we begin Revelation chapter 20. Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. He cast him into the bottomless pit and shut him up and set a seal on him.
Why? So that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years are finished. We have a prison called the bottomless pit. We have the jailer who has a the key to the bottomless pit, the prison. And he has the chain by which Satan will be bound. He's cast in. He is locked in, incarcerated.
He is removed from his ability to influence human beings with deception. That is the event that has to happen next before the jubilee for the world can happen. Satan won't let that jubilee happen unless he's removed. That's why I love the word incarcerated. It's a beautiful vision of what God has in mind for his adversary, our adversary.
He's going to be removed and incarcerated without influence. No more deception. Then the Jubilee can happen for the whole world. This is why the Day of Atonement is the necessary next step and cannot be ignored or skipped over or somehow treated as it means something different than it really means. We're going to go into that day in detail on Monday and learn exactly what this is talking about.
So this brings us all the way back to Dor in Leviticus. The servant did not reform his master. He didn't negotiate better circumstances for himself some time off. God set a decree that when the trumpet blasts on the day of atonement on the 50th year, all of the inhabitants of the land are free. Liberty from their service, from their bondage.
That is the freedom that they are offered on this day of atonement on the 50th year. That is the millennial jubilee toward which the physical law always pointed. Think again about that sound of the trumpet that happens in ancient Israel on this one and only day of atonement every 50 years. You're that servant who sold himself into bondage.
Maybe you've been at that for 10 years or 20 years or 30 years or 40 years. How long have we been in God's church? Feels like a long time in bondage to me to Satan's rule. We fight against it every day. We don't negotiate with Satan, do we? We're waiting for his captivity, for him to be removed from this world.
That's what we're waiting for. Just as ancient Israel wanted to be free, every individual who was in servitude and in bondage wanted liberty. And they waited for that trumpet sound on that day of atonement which guaranteed their freedom. God is going to free this world. That's what we're going to spend our time on the day of atonement looking carefully at.
