People normally apply to colleges or crafts schools and then wait to hear if they've been accepted. But our application process is in reverse, with us first being first called to God's school. When we accept that calling (to a whole new lifestyle) we begin a lifetime of study. For us, the text book is the Bible, and our laboratory is here in the church congregation. We are taking classes in theology, doctrine, and Christian living --- and then we must apply what we are learning. Our mandate is to "rightly divide the word of truth" 2 Timothy 2:15. What does that mean?

Fred Crow is an elder with United Church of God; pastor of the Eureka and San Jose, California congregations. Fred retired from the aerospace industry in 2015. He has two daughters and eight grandchildren. He wrote a newspaper column, was a published cartoonist, taught scuba diving, and is a writer, photographer, and traveler.
