Intro: When we are civilized and manage society well, we are righteous.
{{Story of Beloit College student known by most everybody in Beloit. He died about a week ago.
A self-described drifter, Jim (Arness) left home at age 18, hopping freight trains and Caribbean-bound freighters. He entered Beloit College in Wisconsin, but was drafted into the Army in his 1942-43 freshman year. Wounded in the leg during the 1944 invasion at Anzio, Italy, Jim (Arness) was hospitalized for a year and left with a slight limp. He returned to Minneapolis to work as a radio announcer and in small theater roles.
After being drafted into the Army during his freshman year at Beloit College in Wisconsin, in early 1943, Jim (Arness) was assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division and took part in the landing at Anzio, Italy, in 1944. (Because of his height, he was chosen to be the first off his landing craft to test the depth of the water.)
Later, while walking point on a night patrol through a vineyard, Jim (Arness) walked into a German machine-gun nest, and rounds severely splintered the bones in his lower right leg. The wound resulted in his leg being shortened by about 5/8 of an inch, and he thereafter wore a lift in his shoe.
After undergoing months of rehabilitation in a stateside hospital, Jim (Arness) was honorably discharged from the Army in January 1945 with a $56-a-month disability pension. He was really a nice guy who changed America for the better. But more of that later. Suffice to say, Jim didn’t change America’s heart, or the world’s heart, or mankind’s heart. But humans think, “If we can just learn to behave, and be civilized with one another showing love, it’ll work out.” It hasn’t, and won’t.}}}
Good people make it all better. We don’t need or certainly want any intervention from outside our lives here in humanity. We’ve got it covered. That’s how mankind behaves. No real intervention from God necessary, unless it is to suit our will and way.
But God explains a better world. He has planned a vastly superior, happy world for mankind. This present evil world (Gal 1:4 4Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:) is to become Utopia soon. God knows the reason why the world will be so powerfully happy, productive, and alive then. Why it will be unimaginably wonderful is in God’s Plan being worked out right now in His chosen called out ones.
Benefit Statement: It is because at that time – in the millennium – God says, that He will do something He has not yet done for His creation of man.
(((Joel 2:28 28And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: 29And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. )))
Then mankind will seek the Holy Spirit which God will freely give them. Fleshly mankind will then be in a state of spiritual begettal by the Holy Spirit of God. But don’t we pretty much have it in hand, and we’ve been doing well, because there are good men like the one from Beloit College?
SPS:Christ told the apostles to wait for a new thing. Power from God. (Lk 24:49 49And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.)
That POWER is the Second Phase of God’s Family Creation. Mankind to Godkind.
1) Acts 1:8 8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
There was then a great display of Power of the Holy Spirit caused with its first arrival, as they were waiting for it coming.
Acts 2:2 2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
8And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
11Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
Man’s creation in Eden was complete only in the physical sense. He was created a perfect physical specimen – but not a perfect spiritual creation. He was created without the divine spiritual power within him.
(((How to compare God and mankind. There is actually NO power in human life. It ends. BUT there’s potential!
Isa 64:8 8But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.
Job realized that God was forming a special creation in his life.
Job 14:14 14If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come. 15Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands.
We humans are merely a piece of pliable clay in the hands of the master Potter.)))
Converted, Spirit-led Christians are being fashioned for a specific purpose.
Isa 43:7 7Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.
(((Eph 2:10 10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Being fashioned into beings with perfect spiritual character (selflessness) in obedience to God, not our own thinking.)))
God is creating His supreme masterpiece by two distinct steps: Man, the clay material creation (Gen 1), is only the first phase of what is to become God’s finished spiritual creation. For man, the clay model, has to be fashioned and molded by experience and with the powerful help of God’s Holy Spirit, into the finished masterpiece of all God’s creation.
But before the second phase of man’s creation – his spiritual growth – begins, God the Father must first beget us by placing His Holy Spirit within us. We are then impregnated, so to speak, by the “seed” or germ of eternal life. It is the begettal of the life of God within our minds! We then compare to a newly begotten babe in its mother’s womb that begins to grow!
We are called the begotten Sons of God at that point.
1 Jn 3:1 1Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
Mankind to God-kind
Gen 1:25 25And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and everything that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
26And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
(((Gen 6:15 19And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female. 20Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.
(18But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee.) )))
How was God going to finish this original Creation? How would He make mankind like HIM?
We then partake of the nature and characteristics of God when begotten.
2 Pet 1:3 3According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
The basic characteristic of God’s Nature that WE humans do not have until begotten by God is.
1 Jn 4:16 16And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
(((This is the same selfless, outgoing concern that will enable us to “fulfill” – to truly obey – God’s laws as He does and Lives.
Rom 13:10 10Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
Rom 5:5 5And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.)))
2) No one who continues to flagrantly break God’s Law of Love has received the Spirit of God or has the power of God working in him!
But if we have God’s Spirit in us, then God’s mature, which is Love (selflessly motivated active support of God’s Plan for His Creation), will radiate from us in obedience and (sincere, unselfish, outgoing service) good works.
If we are begotten and grow by God’s Spirit, we can eventually attain to the very likeness and stature – the very composition – of God!
Ps 17:15 15 As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.
1 Jn 3:2 2Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
The impregnation of a human being by the Holy Spirit – that person will begin to think as God thinks, see things as God does, and begin to act as He acts. The converting person will experience their whole attitude beginning to change. This will become more like God every day, because they will have the mind of Jesus Christ.
And if, in this life we grow spiritually and our thinking and ways have been changed until we really do become new characters, conformed to God’s Will; then that clay model, worked over, fashioned, and shaped into the rough spiritual image of God, will suddenly be changed into the finished, perfected spiritual creation at the resurrection! We shall then be fully actually born of God – we shall be Gods!
(((Power for the Asking
God will readily give His chosen, called children His Holy Spirit today.
Lk 11:10 10For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 11If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? 12Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
Begotten children of God have direct access to the Father in heaven.
(((Eph 2:13 13But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
18For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
Heb 10:19 19Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
Christ instructs us how to establish this contact.
Mt 6:6 6But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. )))
Ever since the Holy Spirit – the power of God – arrived on Pentecost, 31ad, man has had the opportunity to come directly to the very throne of the Father in prayer, through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit! What a priceless privilege!
In the Old Testament times, no one prayed to the Father. No one addressed God as “Father” then. And only an extremely few could then address the God who was to become the Son! But the Son, Jesus Christ, came to declare to all who the Father is.
Jn 1:18 18No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
The point being that all may now be begotten of Him and have access to Him through the Holy Spirit!
There are special advantages of this close relationship with our heavenly Father.
((( Heb 5:7 7Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
Jesus Christ was in constant contact with the Father. He received answers to His prayers and performed mighty miracles through the power of God’s Spirit in Him We may also establish this very same contact and receive answers today as Jesus Christ did then. )))
(((Fruits – Gal 5:22 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Rom 15:13 13Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.)))
Special Gifts – 1 Cor 12:1 1Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
4Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. 7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
Church = individuals of It. They make up the Body by the Spirit connection to God – (NOT doctrine or “administration”).
{{12For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. 13For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. 14For the body is not one member, but many.}}
Just imagine! These are some of the additional things God gives those who surrender their lives to Him and receive His Holy Spirit! God divides those spiritual gifts among certain ones in His Church as He wills.
And what is the greatest attribute or characteristic that God bestows freely on those who follow Him?
(((1 Cor 13:131 13And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.)))
3) The Second Phase of Man’s Creation completed through the Spirit of God.
(((((So how much of God’s Spirit can WE receive in this human life?
Eph 1:13 13In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
2 Cor 5:5 5Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.
And “earnest” is a “token or pledge” of what is to come – Webster’s. Therefore, the “earnest” of God’s Spirit is a small part of the Spirit and power with which one is imbued at first. But after this initial imbuement, we grow spiritually, and at Christ’s return, we’ll become Spirit – become completely composed of God’s Spirit of power.
Paul received only a comparatively small portion of the Holy Spirit as compared to the fullness of the Spirit that Jesus received.
Jn 3:34 34For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
Yet look at what it did through Paul! By the example of Paul’s life, we know that we also can be greatly strengthened. )))))
Christ was the first one of many to be resurrected to eternal life.
(((Acts 26:23 23That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should show light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.)))
(((Col 1:18 18And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. )))
1 Cor 15:22 22For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.
Jesus Christ was glorified after His resurrection.
(((Jn 17:44I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. 5And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.)))
Christ’s glorified body appears to those who are privileged to see Him as He is in Rev.
Rev 1:13 13And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. 14His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; 15And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. 16And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two-edged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
As God, Christ had a glorious, resplendent, spiritual body before He took the human form. Now Christ is glorified again, Christ’s spirit body is SO powerful that it radiates light as bright as the sun!
God will glorify His Spirit-begotten children at the resurrection with this same great power and glory
Rom 8:17 17And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
((( Col 3:4 4When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.)))
((( Christ gave His disciples a fleeting glimpse of this glorified condition when He was “transfigured”.
Mt 17:1 1And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, 2And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
This was a vision they saw concerning the future.
9And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead. )))
The ultimate power we shall receive a the resurrection will be so GREAT, it will make our Spirit Bodies shine as the sun, and our raiment will be as dazzling light! All this can come later than this human life by having God’s Spirit working within us NOW!
Dan 12:2 2And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. 3And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever.
The astounding truth of the Bible is that God desires to place within mankind the great power of His Holy Spirit – as a free gift! By this power, man can keep God’s perfect, holy, spiritual (selfless, outgoing active concerned) laws.
This is how God is now fulfilling His part of the New Covenant with those He has spiritually begotten. He is now engraving His Royal Law in the hearts and minds of true Christians through His Spirit.!
God is in the process of forming His spiritual creation in man – but only in those who have yielded to Him and have allowing His Spirit to enter and beget them as His spiritual sons! Yes, God is the Potter and we are the clay.
This life is the training ground. We are here for the express purpose of learning how to rightly direct the vast powers God will give us when we are born as His Sons – powers so tremendous the mind of man cannot now conceive.
At the resurrection, our spiritual creation will be complete. We will then have the mind of God in full. We’ll e completely composed of Holy Spirit, and be the very sons of God in God’s Kingdom. Christ will have completed His New Testament Covenant with us. We shall then be able to obey His laws of selflessness in action perfectly – forever.
(((1 Jn 3:9 9Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.)))
Few grasp how great and all-powerful God really is, and His lovingkindness in making it possible for us to have His mind and great power.
God’s great purpose of creating very Sons of God out of mortal mankind marches on. God made you so you can voluntarily cooperate with Him in His great Plan by surrendering your carnal self to Him through repentance, and a life of learning to reject your reasoning and instead obeying His selfless life giving Way in obedience to His stated Laws of Life.
If ancient Israel had only known the full intent of what God told them when He gave them the choices of how to proceed, they would have known God was actually speaking of the same choices He gave Adam and Eve.
Today and every day from here on, we too are given those choices.
God told Israel what they could not understand then, but spiritual Israel (God’s Church) CAN understand today. God is telling mankind to choose the Life only possible through His Mind in man.
Deut 30:19 19I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: 20That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.
The “Life” being spoken of by God is only FROM the Spirit of God.
The Holy Spirit is Life.
Rom 8:1 (((1There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. 3For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 4That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 5For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. 9But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.)))
10And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. ((((11But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. 12Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. 18For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. 20For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, 21Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. 23And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. 24For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? 25But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.))))
Conclusion:
Being civilized, adding to society and being a nice person will affect the world …but for a limited time. Jim made a BIG difference as humans go. He helped change us. And now, does this generation, or the next remember Jim?
At the suggestion of his brother, Jim (Arness) enrolled in a radio announcing school in Minneapolis. He quickly found work as a disc jockey at a local station.
But after several months, he quit to join a friend on a trip to Los Angeles. He figured he'd spend a few weeks out West and then return home. Instead, after making a few show business contacts, he decided to stay in L.A. and try his hand at acting. Using the GI Bill, he joined the acting program at the Bliss-Hayden Theater, an established little theater school in Beverly Hills, where he was discovered by an agent.
That led to his being introduced to producer Dore Schary. The result: Jim Arness' 1947 screen debut playing a small part as one of Loretta Young's three Scandinavian brothers in "The Farmer's Daughter." Small roles in William Wellman's "Battleground," John Ford's "Wagon Master" and other films followed.
When CBS offered him the part, Arness hesitated in signing the contract. But Wayne urged him to take the role, saying it was a tremendous break. The actor was 32 when friend John Wayne declined the lead role in "Gunsmoke" and recommended Arness instead. Afraid of being typecast, Arness initially rejected it.
"Go ahead and take it, Jim," Wayne urged him. "You're too big for pictures. Guys like Gregory Peck and I don't want a big lug like you towering over us. Make your mark in television." To give Arness and "Gunsmoke" a publicity boost when it debuted, Wayne provided an on-camera introduction in which he praised the new TV western series for being honest, adult and realistic.
"I knew there was only one man to play in it, James Arness," Wayne told viewers. "He's a young fella and may be new to some of you. But I've worked with him, and I predict he'll be a big star. So you might as well get used to him, like you've had to get used to me."
"Matt," Arness once said, "is very human and has all the failings and drives common to anyone who is trying to do a difficult job the best he knows how."
This life – the best we know how. We don’t know what is best. We need another Mind. We need a strong Hand from someplace.
Close: So …choose real Life, the Life of the Living Creator God in you. So very few have been offered this magnificent Gift beyond human imagining in this Age today.
Rom 8:26 26Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. 28And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
29For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
Choose the Holy Spirit led Life by giving up your own desire and need to know not only good, but evil too.
