Spiritual Purposes and Effects of Atonement

There are “bridges” that can help us understand the progression from the “shadows” of the symbolic language of the OT to the “heavenly things” that show the meaning in the NT. The “bridge” we will consider today are the words “mercy seat.” We find this in Lev. 16:15 and in Heb. 9:5 (NKJV throughout). Sometimes translated “mercy seat” and sometimes “propitiation.” Furthermore we will see seven purposes and/or effects significantly connected in Scripture with the Day of Atonement.
