Three Greek Words to Consider

There are three Greek words that are translated in the NKJV as "consider" in the book of Hebrews. Understanding the differences helps us to gain more from our study of the letter to the Hebrews.

First Greek word – G2657 (Strong’s) – “katanoeo” - to observe fully; behold, discover, perceive To do so attentively and thoughtfully. Vine’s Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words KATANOEO – “to perceive clearly (kata, intensive, and noeo, to perceive with the mind, think about) Vincent’s Word Studies - Take careful note of each other's spiritual welfare. It denotes attentive, continuous care.

Second Greek word – G2334 (Strong’s) – “theoreo” - to be a spectator of, that is, discern, (literally, figuratively [experience] or intensively [acknowledge]): - behold, consider, look on, perceive, see. Vine’s Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words Under the word “behold” - THEOREO - from theoros, a spectator, is used of one who looks at a thing with interest and for a purpose, usually indicating the careful observation of details.

Third Greek word – G357 – (Strong’s) “analogizomai” - to estimate, that is, (figuratively) contemplate: - consider. Vine’s Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words ANALOGIZOMAI – to consider Vincent’s Word Studies - to reckon up; to consider in the way of comparison.

Gary was born at Centralia, Washington and grew up at Rochester, Washington. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1961, and from St. Martin's College in Lacey, Washington in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.

In 1968, he sat for and passed the state license exam for professional land surveyor.  He was active in this occupation with the same land surveying firm in Olympia since 1966. He is now retired.

He was baptized in the spring of 1968 and has been a member of the Olympia congregation since.  He was ordained a deacon in the fall of 1971 and an elder in the spring of 2002.

Gary met Nickie during Pentecost services in 1968. Nickie was baptized in early 1967, and was a member of the Seattle congregation. They were married in 1970. They have three grown sons and three delightful grandchildren. They currently reside in Rochester, Washington.
