What Did You Come Here to See?

Should we just keep the Feast just because God says to?

Should we just keep the Feast as “our time to rejoice”...we’ll work during the Millennium Is there more to the Feast than just obedience and enjoyment? → → YES ← ←

This sermon was given at the Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin 2017 Feast site.

Why do we keep the Feast.

Leviticus 23:33-36 → ...because God said so!! ...to worship God.

Deuteronomy 16:13-15 → ...because God said so!! ...to worship God. ...to rejoice.

Isaiah 25:6 → ...to rejoice

SPS: Should we just keep the Feast because God says to?

Should we just keep the Feast as “our time to rejoice”...we’ll work during the Millennium

Is there more to the Feast than just obedience and enjoyment? → → YES ← ←

BODY 1: The Feast is Inclusive

Deuteronomy 16:13-14 → include the oft forgotten (widow, fatherless, stranger, etc…)

- What can we learn by including others? → awareness, compassion, empathy

- Matthew 25:34-40 → clothe, feed...

BODY 2: The Feast is a Trust Builder

Deuteronomy 16:13, 16 → if we keep the Feast, God will bless us so that we can rejoice

Deuteronomy 14:22-27 → learn to fear/trust God, realize your increase

- What can we learn by spending our tithe? → God does what He says

- We saved our tithes :: Someone else shared their tithes to get us here

BODY 3: The Feast is for Doers

Matthew 11:1-30 → What did you come here to see?

vs. 2-6 → we look forward to these during the Feast (picturing the Millennium)

vs. 7-9 → Jesus rebukes those that went to see John for the spectacle of it

vs. 13-24 → don’t ignore what is plainly in front of our eyes

vs. 28-30 → come, learn, find rest

CONC: The Feast is more than mere obedience.

- We need to move beyond the, “...because I said so…”

- We need to move beyond the enjoyment/entertainment factor

- Focus on the lessons we can learn through our obedience and rejoicing
