[Darris McNeely] A famous actor once said the key to success was to show up and know your lines. It's pretty good advice.

You know, an actor on a movie set or on a stage has a particular mark that is on the floor - sometimes it's put there and drawn there, or it's an imaginary place - where they step up. And it's there they deliver their lines in the scene, in the play, in the movie.

Show up and know your lines. It's a good key to success and understanding how to get along in life. Maybe whether you're showing up for class, showing up for a job, showing up in a relationship, and then knowing your stuff, knowing what you're supposed to do, knowing your job - that's the key.

You know, sometimes we might get a job because of who we know. A lot of people do that. But the key is, we will keep the job based on what we know. You can get a job because of who you know, but will keep a job in the long run because of what we know. In other words, we have to know our lines. We have to know our stuff and that may take education, continual learning in the process, but also involves showing up, which means being on time, being there, learning things.

Sometimes habits don't change in our lives until we just kind of put ourselves through the motions for one week, two weeks, four weeks at a time in order to change certain behaviors. We show up and then we learn certain behavioral changes that we may be wanting to do, whether it's with our physical health or just certain spiritual habits as well.

Showing up and knowing our lines is a key to success.

There's a Proverb that reminds me of this. It's in Proverbs 10:4 and it says, "He who has a slack hand becomes poor, but the hand of the diligent makes rich." You know, things are always going to change and we're going to be in a process of change, but diligence will make us successful. The hands of those who are diligent will make for success. Slack hands make for poverty.

Show up, know your lines - good key to success rooted in God's word.
