Scripture for the Parable are:
Mark 4
Matt 13
Luke 8
Admonition from Jesus:
Matt 13:9 – He who has ears, let him hear. Each of the accounts of the parable has this admonition.
We must pay close attention to what He is saying and to draw out the meanings from life experiences and how to apply them. Jesus expects us to learn valuable life lessons.
Points to ponder:
- This is Jesus’s longest and most important Parable
- Mark 4:13 “do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables?
- Jesus expects us to learn valuable life lessons
- The question to examine from the parable is: What quality of “soil” is your life?
- The reasons are given in His explanation and in the stark reality of how life really works.
Questions
- I would like for us to discuss and consider each of these soil types and how they relate to our lives.
- Wayside or Hard Packed Soil
- Stony Soil
- Thorny Soil
Good Soil
What lessons can we pull from our own personal vegetable gardens and our personal planting of seeds?
- The Sower and the seed stand out as the most insightful in its depth of teaching about how the seed of the gospel of the Kingdom is sown and works in life. No other parable shows how the devil, the allure of the world and the cares of life can conspire to root from our lives the truths of God’s word.
- How can we make sure our heart is sown and stays in the good soil?
Again, the question to meditate on is “what kind of soil is your heart made of?”
Thank you and I look forward to an interesting discussion on this important parable.
