Far from a tragic defeat, Jesus Christ’s suffering and death were part of a planned and purposeful victory. Roman soldiers mocked Him with a robe signifying royalty and a crown of thorns. But this was all part of God’s mockery of the Roman triumphal ceremony, revealing Christ as the true and ultimate victor—far surpassing earthly rulers. Jesus’ victory at that time and in our lives today is pictured in the biblical Passover and Days of Unleavened Bread. Christians should observe these festivals, centered on redemption and spiritual renewal through Christ, instead of unbiblical Easter traditions. In line with that, we must cease from hypocrisy and live in the truth. We also review in this issue a recent book on the Sabbath and examine what Scripture really teaches about eternal punishment. Above all, we focus on Jesus Christ’s ongoing work—redeeming, transforming and preparing believers to share in His coming reign.
