No one loves the topic of child rearing, in fact it can step on many toes and cause big emotional reactions. But are we bringing our children up to thrive and succeed in both God's way of life and in this world with others? It seems we error on two sides: being completely hands off or being too strict. This is part 1 of a two part series on child rearing that will cover the concept of the rod and the staff that we read of in Psalms 23. How do these two concepts help us know how to guide our children?

This was a very helpful sermon! I'd love you to clarify this verse: "Do not withhold correction from a child, For if you beat him with a rod, he will not die." I notice it's the same Hebrew word for "rod" as in Psalm 23. Clearly it's not talking about abusive "beating", since a child *could* die from abuse. But I would love to understand better how it fits.
