Itching Ears and the Book of Jubilees | Ask for the Old Paths, by Greg Sanny

Social media is full of “new truth,” and much of it comes from very old fables.

The book of Jubilees claims to come from Moses, yet it is pseudepigrapha written centuries later. Learn why itching ears turn people aside to fables, why such books cannot be reconciled with the inspired Word of God, and why 2 Timothy 4:1-4, Revelation 3:3 and Jeremiah 6:16 call us to hold fast and ask for the old paths.

If you want, you can start turning to 2 Timothy 4, verses 1-4.

Verse 1, I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

Are we sure what we teach is what the apostles and Jesus Christ taught?

Now, to 2 Thessalonians 2:13. 2 Thessalonians 2:13-15. We are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle.

Then there's one more I'd like to turn to, and that's Revelation 3:3. Revelation 3:3. Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you.

We have professing Christians, and even some in the Church, who think they need to come up with new truth. They are so eager with itching ears that they want to break the case, come up with something new, and tell us all about it.

This is what this one YouTuber that I talked about once before, we used to watch him for his DIY skills. And he started a new YouTube channel. He said it was going to be discussing, you know, religious beliefs. Which really it's more, I'm going to teach my followers the truth, his new truth. And what he gets much of it from is the book of Jubilees.

And as we know, the book of Jubilees is not canonized, and no mainstream church, Jewish, Catholic, Protestant groups, accept this book. I mean, no mainstream does. Basically, it's a book of fables, as is the book of Enoch. These were already finding their way into the New Testament church when Paul wrote to Timothy.

The book of Jubilees is an anonymous ancient Jewish text, though it attributes authorship to Moses, claiming it was dictated to him by an angel while he was on Mount Sinai. Modern scholarship, supported by evidence from the Dead Sea Scrolls, dates the actual composition to the 2nd century BCE, approximately 160-150 BCE, likely by a Jewish author of priestly, Essene, or Pharisaic background. Very much like the Quran and the Book of Mormon, it claims to have been revealed by an angel that gave them the information.

Now let's look at some of the churches that believe in the book of Jubilees, and don't be surprised if you've never heard of them. The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church and the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church are the only Christian denominations that consider the book of Jubilees canonized. Additionally, the Beta Israel Ethiopian Jewish community, specifically those observing Haymanot Judaism, also regard the text as a part of the canon. All other major Christian religions classify the book of Jubilees as pseudepigrapha, that is, they were written later than they claim and use famous names such as Moses and Enoch, but are not accepted as true scripture.

The book of Jubilees is portrayed as an ancient text that retells the stories of Genesis and Exodus. It is organized around 49-year periods called jubilees. They also believe angels mated with humans and produced a lineage of giants, which were also found in the book of Enoch, and they give angels four classifications. A lot of what was written in the book of Jubilees is also told in the book of Enoch, but not found in the accepted canon of the Bible.

Much confusion is beginning to arise with the advent of social media and the proliferation of people seeking a following, plus a population that has become biblically illiterate. Our ancestors looked at these books, and they knew they did not align with the Holy Scriptures. And while they were aware of them, they considered them to be false. Because much of these are retained in the Ethiopian Bible, which predates the King James translation, and fragments were found along with scriptures in the Dead Sea Scrolls, when they are found with the Dead Sea Scrolls, people are misled into believing they have merit.

Since scholars agree that the manner of language and the mention of locations that were between the time of Malachi and Matthew, these books cannot be as ancient as they claim to be. Not to mention that some of what they say is in direct opposition to what was found in authorized versions of the Holy Bible.

We've been handed a heritage of scriptures that was deeply searched out, and years spent to make sure that it was true to the original inspired Word of God. Iron sharpens iron, as long as the source is correct. If you're using the inspired Word of God, and someone else is using a pseudepigraphic source, the two cannot be reconciled. One's the sound doctrine; the other one's not. After thousands of years of people having the inspired verses and knowing these others are false, we've had many years of people no longer attending church, or if they do, it is watered down, and is no longer recognized. They no longer recognize heresy.

This YouTuber apparently has been searching for truth. He has a genuine desire to please God and has found some things, such as rejecting the Trinity, and also knowing that the reward for the saved is not in heaven but here on earth. So he does get some of this stuff, but he has embraced the book of Jubilees, and it's leading him astray. He said he literally loves this book. I think he pays more attention to it than he does the Bible.

He has a shallow understanding of who Jesus is, based on one verse, and he does not understand. And without God specifically helping him see this, he is now becoming one more voice on the internet that is adding to religious confusion. He is the one I talked about that believed Jesus was created, and he just, he can't get over that one. He speaks on it almost all the time.

I'm not just picking on him. At least he has some truth. But he highlights a growing problem, where some are even getting people to believe the wickedness in high places are actually descendants of Satan seducing Eve sexually, and they are offspring with serpent's blood. When Jesus told the Pharisees they were of their father the devil, they say it was literal, and that you became Satan when you reject God.

The Bible is not to be added to, or anything taken away from it. But if we think we know how God would have handled something, we cannot add to what the Scripture says and put our spin on it. He says His ways and thoughts are so much higher than ours that we basically can only find understanding from what He has inspired, and He has left many things for us to know in the future. We see through a glass darkly.

Jeremiah spoke about seeking the old paths, which means not forsaking what came before to embrace what itching ears want to hear. People seem to be enthralled by the idea of angels producing offspring, something Jesus says they're not capable of. Let's consider that even if they could reproduce after their own kind, they still would not be able to reproduce with another kind. Spirit and flesh are not compatible. They are led astray by these fables. They have been around for a long time, but not as long as they claim.

God is using His Holy Spirit to join with our spirit in man to continue His creation. God is still creating, and this time it is His holy, righteous character. He is the only one able to change the fleshly into something that is eternal. It is His gift to us. Satan, who deceives the whole world, wants people to believe he is on the God plane and capable of having offspring. He is not, and neither are any of the angels, fallen or otherwise.

If you'd like, turn to Jeremiah 6:16. Jeremiah 6:16. Thus says the Lord: Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk in it.

Even if you try to tell them, they will always go back to those books that were not part of the old paths and try to quote from them to prove their point. A time of confusion lies ahead that, if possible, could deceive even the elect. Hold fast to the truth once delivered, and stand in the old paths.
