There are two aspects of salvation, what Jesus does within us. You must repent and turn to God for the removal of your sins through Jesus Christ. Then you must go forward, follow through with what you said you'd do - put sin out, symbolized both by the journey the Israelites made through the wilderness after leaving Egypt and by the putting out of leaven during the Days of Unleavened Bread.
