[Steve Myers] Does it really matter which holidays you observe? A lot of you might say, not really. A holiday is a holiday, right? Well, as long as it feels meaningful. If it brings families together, why question it?
But what if that assumption is wrong? Because when you actually open the Bible, the answer isn't what most people expect. God doesn't just care that He's worshipped. He cares how He's worshipped. And when you search the Scriptures, you don't find God commanding celebrations like Easter or Christmas or Halloween. Even though millions of people know these holidays, they're not the days God told His people to keep.
Now what you do find is something very different. In Leviticus 23, God says, "These are My feasts." Now, that's a remarkable statement. They're not just simply ancient Jewish customs. They're not traditions invented by people. They're actually God's appointed times. These are the days He set apart for a very specific purpose. And you know, that purpose is far bigger than most people realize.
God's Holy Days reveal His plan for mankind. And you know, that matters. That matters especially in this crazy world that often feels confused, unstable and spiritually adrift. The Holy Days give you the answers to the biggest questions of life. Why are we here? What is God doing on this earth? What hope is there for the future? And how do I fit into that plan?
At some point, those questions become personal. Your responsibilities grow as life gets busier, as the years go by. Many wonder, is this all there is? Is life just about getting through another week, another paycheck, another round of responsibilities? The Bible says there's much more.
God's Holy Days show us that He's working out an incredible purpose, and it is deeply personal. He's building a family—a spiritual family. In 1 John 3, we are called "the children of God." And ultimately, when Jesus Christ returns, we shall be like Him.
Now think about that. God is calling human beings into a relationship with Him, and ultimately into His own spirit family. Now that theme runs through every one of the Holy Days. You see, these days reveal the meaning of Christ's sacrifice, the need to leave sin behind, the gift of God's Spirit, and the return of Jesus Christ, looking forward to the coming Kingdom of God.
In other words, they show us that history is not random, and your life is not accidental. There's an amazing future ahead. You know, God has a plan, and that plan includes you. Jesus Christ kept these days. The apostles kept them, and the early church continued to observe them. So there are now outdated observances with no relevance to your life.
They're a living reminder that God is working out His purpose, and that His purpose leads to hope. Real hope. Lasting hope. And the kind of hope that you and this world desperately needs.
Now as I go through this series on God's Holy Days, I hope you'll stay with me. I hope you'll open your Bible, that you'll look at the Scriptures for yourself, because you may be surprised to discover that God's Holy Days are not just about ancient history. They're about you and your future.
