[Steve Myers] Well, it seems like the world is concentrated on germs. Hand sanitizer helps get rid of those germs we're told. Antibacterial soaps are all over the place. It seems that our society in a way has become germaphobic. We're worried about germs everywhere.
There's a spiritual lesson that we can take from this concept. In the book of Timothy it tells us that we need to be cleaned up, but not with hand sanitizer or anti-bacterial soaps. Timothy puts it a different way. He says in verse 19, "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity." In other words, Christians, if you claim to be a Christian, you've got to come out of sin. You've got to cleanse yourself from sin. Of course that's not anything we can do ourselves. He says we've got to do that through the word of God, through God's Holy Spirit. In fact he goes on in verse 21 and he says, "If anyone cleanses himself from the latter," from that iniquity, from that sin, it says, "he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the master, prepared for every good work" (1 Timothy 2:19-21). And so we can take a lesson from that.
We can take a lesson from the fact that instead of being a germaphobe, instead of being too carried away with getting rid of every little germ, what we've got to do is take that concept and not just use a hand sanitizer to get rid of germs, but we've got to rid ourselves of sin. We've got to get rid of sin in our lives. Instead of using just the little pocket version of getting rid of sin, what we've got to do is take the king size version. And that version can only come from God when it comes to eradicating sin. We've got to use God's Holy Spirit, respond to that spirit, accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, and ask for that forgiveness of sin. So seek repentance. Seek sanctification. That will sanitize us spiritually.
That's BT Daily . We'll see you next time.
