There is wisdom in those words—our society runs on money. Living in poverty is nothing to be desired. God does not want people to suffer that way. Israel was to remember that it is God who gives us the power to get wealth, and it is not by total reliance on our own hands (Deuteronomy 8:17-18 Deuteronomy 8:17-18 [17] And you say in your heart, My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth. We go to school, learn a trade and work hard in order to make a good living and to leave something for our children.
