“Your life isyour business.”— Pascoe Sawyers, personal leadership trainer

Entrepreneurs beginning a new venture have a mission statement of what they want their business to accomplish. A mission statement is how a company or organization focuses on the goals they want to accomplish. It expresses the things that are most important to them.

Christ might not have been a business or company, but He still came to the earth with a mission statement of what He wanted to do with His life while he was here. You can find the example of Christ's mission statement in Luke 4:18-19 (He is quoting Isaiah 61:1-2). “The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”

Christ came here with a goal in mind, He came to the earth to serve and not be served himself (Matthew 20:26). He served all who He came into contact with because of his life's mission statement. Aside from giving the example of serving, Christ gave an example of living your life’s mission statement.

So looking at the example of Jesus Christ helped me make the decision to come up with my own mission statement. I am a disciple of Jesus Christ. I am the salt and light of the earth. I am a sinner striving to change and be Christ like. I strive to love all and serve all. I am Cody Martin and this is my mission statement: "Live life to the fullest. Serve and glorify God in all that I do. And love my neighbor as Christ loves me".

I chose this statement because it encompasses all of the things that are important to me; living life with joy, serving God, and loving people. Having this mission also gives me direction for what I want in a career. I want to do something in which I can serve people and God and enjoy doing it.

So I pose these questions to you: Where do you want to go in life? What do you want to do with your life? Most importantly, what is your life’s mission?
