Individual human beings and the whole world are in desperate need of rescue, having sunk into the engulfing consequences of sin. Many today do not even know what sin is, but it’s at the root of our problems. Sin is the violation of God’s law—and it robs us of the blessings God wants to give us, bringing on us terrible penalties, leading ultimately to death. Yet we need not despair, for God provides the lifeline out—through repentance, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.
Expanding this theme, we examine society’s downward pull and the need to resist, global instability fueled by false religion, and the meaning of the biblical Feast of Firstfruits, Pentecost, in God’s plan to ultimately restore the world. It’s vital that we all actively grasp God’s help—growing in faith, overcoming sin and pressing forward toward lasting freedom and salvation.
