The Trumpet Shall Sound

I hear it increasingly when I talk with brethren, and I am saying it too: "May God's Kingdom come soon!" It has been a tumultuous year, and there is more of 2020 to come. The approaching presidential election seems foreshadowing of more rancor and chaos in the streets.

You may feel a sense of apprehension for our nation's future, but help is on the way. The Feast of Trumpets pictures the day when "the sign of the Son of Man" appears in heaven (Matthew 24:30). We will see Christ "coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory" (same verse)! In that day, the "seventh angel" will sound his trumpet, and loud voices in heaven will say, "The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!" (Revelation 11:15). Finally, it is lasting peace!

The meaning of the Feast of Trumpets ought to stir hope in your heart. If you are prepared for the day when it fully comes, your eternal reign with Christ will begin. For God will "send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet" (Matthew 24:31). They will "gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other" (same verse). When that trumpet sounds, God will raise us to incorruptible glory, "and we shall be changed" (1 Corinthians 15:52)!

The greatest government the world has ever known is coming. It is the only one that can guarantee peace; safety from all harm; respect and compassion for all people. The mountain of the Lord "shall be established on the top of the mountains and shall be exalted above the hills" (Micah 4:1). And "many nations shall come and say, 'Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, and we shall walk in His paths.'" (Verse 2). How much the world needs this day to come!

Things may look bleak for the immediate future, but this will not last too long. As you endure the troubles of this world, your longing for God's kingdom should be growing more intense. Soon, all those troubles will be over. What a day that will be, and what a reason for the trumpet to sound! May we all be there when it does, rejoicing when we hear it blow!

The return of Christ that the Feast of Trumpets pictures is our only hope for lasting peace. How much we need Him to be here, and soon! Be ready for that day, for He says, "Surely I am coming quickly (Revelation 22:20). And we say, "Even so, come, Lord Jesus!" (same verse)!

Warm regards,

Andy
