In spite of the fact that they had been in close personal contact with Jesus for more than three years, His disciples, as He had warned them, fled and denied Him at the time of His arrest, trial, and crucifixion. Even though Peter and the others were angry and indignant at the very thought they would ever deny Jesus, nevertheless, to their shame and chagrin, they did deny and forsake Him. Then, for a time, they would not even believe that He had been resurrected! Why? What did they lack? And why, just weeks later, were they able to act with such great faith even in the face of death?
