Remember the first time you drove a car or threw a basketball into a hoop? It felt awkward. You wondered why it seemed so easy for everyone else.
Watch a child learning how to tie his or her shoes. The little fingers don't seem to understand what the brain is telling them to do. The child may have to practice hundreds of times before finally tying a shoe string into a bow.
In sports an athlete practices the same movements over and over to train both brain and body into what is called muscle memory. The legendary football coach Vince Lombardi said, "Practice doesn't make perfect; perfect practice makes perfect."
This principle doesn't just apply to sports or learning how to ride a bike. Success at any job depends on repeating the job until you master the skills. Honesty is learned by telling the truth over and over until it is unthinkable to tell a lie. Whether learning to save money, type on a keyboard or brush your teeth success depends upon practice, practice, practice.
