Many people, even Bible-believers, have been confused about whether or not we should love ourselves. The word "love" has numerous definitions, but in the Bible, the words "love" and "hate" generally refer to actions, not feelings (see Ephesians 5:29). The Second Great Commandment, "Love your neighbor as yourself," proves that we should love ourselves. We should try to treat other people as well as we treat ourselves. This is summed up by the Golden Rule (Matthew 7:12).
