Israel carried a bronze serpent with them for nearly 700 years before Hezekiah finally destroyed it because it had become an object of false worship. This serpent was actually erected by Moses at the command of God. The history and significance of this bronze serpent contains a lesson for us today.
Just as Israel looked to the brazen serpent on the pole for the forgiveness and healing that God would provide (Numbers 21), we too must look to Jesus Christ, the captain of our salvation, who was lifted up on the pole for us, that we might obtain the eternal life which God has offered to us.
