Hello Robert, 4 or 5 years ago my wife and I were keeping the Days of Unleavened Bread with Brethren in Florida. A gentleman who had read our literature had asked the local pastor if he could attend on one of the high days and he did with Tzitzits. They were modest (and I would say, most appropriate.) We talked about them because I was somewhat unfamiliar. The wearing of them is not common (with us) but certainly not a big issue. I hope that sometime you will visit and enjoy our fellowship.
Hello Jake, Your hesitancy is probably a very good thing. Although you may be correct that your friend may think about suicide, what he (or she) needs right now is your friendship. If you are a good friend then show that! Be there and bring that friend into the light of your concern but rather than even going toward that horrible end, instead bring the friend to joy. Take a walk in the sunshine. Visit a playground and watch the kids play. Do something fun. And while you do, let the other know that you care. Something good will come of this.
Hello Stephen Cheng, I believe that Steven Britt has answered you more than adequately but I would like you to think about one possibility that perhaps you have not considered. Who was the God of the OT? Your hypothetical friend seems to view those 2 testaments as separate, radically unique entities. But also sees Christ as Supreme. If Jesus is God as well as Lord, should we not see a much more intimate connection between OT and NT? Who was the God of the OT?
Hello Frank, I hope that you will take the time to read and think about each of the scriptures that Lena carefully researched and wrote to you. I will simply add one thought. Mark 4 : 33 and 34 (especially !) explain much: " But without a parable He did not speak to them." Consider this.
Hello DrA77a I believe you are sincere. Give them to Goodwill. (I have a problem with SALVATION Army.) (Sorry, that is my personal problem.) But the fact that you are willing to let them go is appreciated. Like so many other things (like conversion) we are, right now, not going to be able to control how people act or think. No, you are not encouraging Paganism. If your destination is anywhere close to San Diego, come and visit UCG San Diego Services. I'd like to meet you and share a meal.
Hello Craig, I strongly believe that Mr. Sexton explained the parameters of wearing Tassels very clearly in his article. But may i quote and then make my own observation? The quote:
"The original scriptural intent behind the fringed garment was to remind the Israelites of God’s commandments to them. They were slaves of sin because, lacking the Spirit of God, their human nature and Satan’s influence caused them to resist doing what was right. God intended they be a model nation for the world to take note of, but they weren’t able to do so for very long—they gave in to the base human instincts we are all very familiar with. But that charge to overcome our nature has now been made possible with the giving of the Holy Spirit. We can now obey from the heart. Paul wrote: “But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness” (Romans 6:17-18). My observation is this: If we have God's Holy Spirit, THAT will lead us into all Truth. We may not be sure of small, incidental, unimportant points but we will be utterly convicted on the big!
