This message explores the Bible’s teaching that the “LORD” who interacted with Israel in the Old Testament was the One who later became Jesus Christ. Scripture shows that no one has seen the Father, yet many Old Testament figures encountered God face-to-face—pointing to the Son as the active divine presence. Jesus identifies Himself as the “I AM,” the Rock of Israel, the First and the Last, and the One who led, protected, and judged His people throughout history. Understanding Christ’s presence and work before His human life deepens our grasp of God’s plan, highlighting the unity of the Father and Son and our calling to live in harmony with that purpose.

This sermon emphasizes the importance of boasting not in ourselves or others, but in God, as taught in 1 Corinthians 3. Paul contrasts a carnal mindset with a spiritual one, urging believers to rely on God’s strength and wisdom, rather than worldly pride, to build a strong foundation in Christ. Trials and challenges refine our faith like fire purifies metal, shaping us to reflect God's character. All our efforts, gifts, and accomplishments should glorify God, recognizing Him as the source of every blessing and giving Him all honor and praise for what He enables us to achieve.

This sermon explores the transformative power of gratitude, emphasizing its role in leading us to a state of true thankfulness. He reflects on the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday as more than a celebration—it’s a time to pause and recognize the gifts we often take for granted. Skorseth draws from biblical examples of men who, amidst their trials, took time to contemplate and express gratitude to God, such as Paul writing letters of thanksgiving from prison. He contrasts this with the fast-paced, stress-filled modern world, which often distracts us from gratitude and contentment. Using the pilgrims’ first Thanksgiving as a poignant example, he illustrates how gratitude can emerge even amidst hardship. Citing the story of the ten lepers healed by Jesus, where only one returned to give thanks, he warns of the unthankfulness prevalent in the world today and urges believers to cultivate gratitude as a daily practice, fostering a deeper connection with God and His blessings.

This sermon explores the profound balance between God's justice and mercy in His plan for humanity. After Christ’s 1,000-year reign with the saints, a second resurrection will bring all who have ever lived to stand before the judgment seat of God, fulfilling the promise that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess. Scripture explains that God’s judgment is not merely about condemnation but rooted in fairness, accountability, and the opportunity for repentance, even for those who never knew Christ. This contrasts with the world’s harsh perception of judgment with the reality of God’s great mercy, where justice is tempered with compassion and all are given the chance to receive eternal life. Additionally, the saints' role, who are being prepared now to rule and judge with Christ in His reign, will reaffirm God’s ultimate goal to not just judge but to demonstrate His enduring kindness, mercy, and grace.

Speaking in tongues is a phenomenon where people utter words or speech-like sounds, often without any understanding by those who listen and unknown to the speaker. The understanding of speaking in tongues varies among Christian groups. Many view it as an unknown heavenly language, while others believe that God’s one true language is Hebrew. The truth is that the ability to speak in tongues, or languages, is a gift of the Holy Spirit and is used by God’s people to spread the Gospel. The Bible records instances of speaking in tongues, particularly in Acts 2, where the followers of Christ received the Holy Spirit and were understood by the people in their own various native languages clearly and plainly—a miracle. However, the ability to speak in tongues, or languages, is not necessarily proof of one having God’s Spirit. Ultimately, determining whether one has been given the Spirit of God involves self-sacrificing love and a sound mind. It is the power of love that serves as a true sign of God’s Spirit at work.

While one-third of the Bible contains prophecy, it doesn’t mean that all of it applies to us or directly affects us today. Yet they are all recorded for our benefit and help us to learn – especially when they apply in there here and now. Zechariah was a prophet of hope and many of his insights do apply to us Christians now as they have a spiritual significance that could only apply to God’s people filled with His Holy Spirit. While there are also historical and future aspects to his prophecies, the Church of God should heed some of these lessons.

The world is seeing a drastic drop in attendance to places of worship, and with a dramatic increase in knowledge, organized religion is often being replaced with spiritism and mysticism. But we know it is the Father who calls people into His congregation — we are not the ones responsible for opening people's eyes. However, it is our responsibility to provide a nurturing environment to those whom God calls into our midst. So, just what are the necessary characteristics of a fertile congregation?

This bible study covers some background to the book of Daniel and the events recorded beginning in Dan 1:1 through Dan 2:24. Daniel was an amazing prophet for God. It all began when he was a very young man, and not only young, but a captive in the land of Babylon. He had been removed from his country in what had to be a traumatic experience for him and taken to a foreign land. Yet, he did not give in to despair. Instead he dedicated himself to God's service. This bible study covers the time of training he was given in Babylon and the beginning of his service as a prophet in the hands of God.

Antichrist, antichrists, and the spirit of Antichrist—do you know what these words and phrases are talking about? There are prophecies that speak about an "Antichrist" who will arrive on the world scene during the end times, as well as a "spirit of antichrist" that will lay the groundwork for his arrival. How can we identify this spirit? Who is—and who will be—the Antichrist, and how will we be able to recognize him? As man's reign on Earth begins to reach it's tipping point, there are still a number of prophecies yet to be fulfilled, and God's people—the body of Christ—have a responsibility to discern the times, to KNOW what their Bibles say, and to stay close to THE TRUNK OF THE TREE.
